We lived in the PA mountains for years, had a barn built with peg/hole old fashioned way. Raised animals for 4H. I got diagnosed with a life long disease in my 40’s during the recession, we had to sell it. Paid cash for a foreclosed on house in town 10 years ago. I still hate it. I miss the pitch black & complete silence at night. I miss my chickens the most. I told my husband, I can’t live the rest of my life here. I don’t care if we live in a trailer, I want to be back in the mountains.
@loriboyce942Ай бұрын
Sorry about your illness. I completely understand the misery of living in town. We moved to a trailer in the bush in my mid 20s because I was losing my mind in the city. Best thing we ever did.
@chrissyfrancis8952Ай бұрын
@@loriboyce942 I’m jealous. The good thing was paying cash for it from the sale of our mountain farmette. No mortgage, but the house needs a lot of work. But, when we do sell, it’ll all go to a place in the mountains. As far as the illness, I’m grateful for everyday when I open my eyes.

You should really take a rigging course now that you have an overhead crane. The tension on that chain multiplies immensely with that much of an angle on it. A spreader bar shouldve been used for your safety
@ajk374Ай бұрын
Keep the angle no more than 90 degrees for sure.

Totally agree, crane safety, as well, know your potential for failure.
@michailbest1122Ай бұрын
@@ajk37460 degrees is the proper angle for 100% capacity on your rigging. At 30 degrees you double the load on the rigging. Nobody has the luxury of picking at 90 degrees all the time. It’s just not realistic….

A little grading terminology, 1 foot of elevation change in 100 feet is called a 1% grade just as 2 feet of change is 2% grade. ( or slope) General road construction calls for a 2% grade or slope from the center or crown of the roadway to the outside to maintain sheet flow drainage.

After you reverse the dump direction of your cart, you might consider adding a piece of rubber belting around that edge so you don’t spill your peas on the floor. It would be like a little funnel, but it would be rubber so it wouldn’t damage anything if it made contact.

Chet, always move as much as you can prior, saves you time and much effort later on. I don't know how you receive your winds but, if those trees are on the north end, build your house near those, use them as a wind break from those harsh winter winds. Not many think about things like that and later on realize their mistake. Lined wells, nothing they can do other than test the condition of the water and to see the volume you can pump, they can't clean them do to that lining. Looking forward to seeing more of this build project. Cheers :)

I would definitely have the existing water well checked out, especially if it's older and you don't have info on the depth of the steel casing. I'm not familiar with the well drilling standards in MN, but here in MO many of the older wells have very little casing. If your well doesn't have very much casing or it's deteriorated, you could have problems with surface water influence from the nearby lake. I would have a camera inspection done to determine the amount and condition of the casing.
