Thanks for another great video. It was interesting and enjoyable. Having two high speed planters going at the same time makes for a busy day for everyone. Wow. Putting seed in the ground. No big breakdowns so Far so that is good. Keeping fingers crossed. Thanks to Dougo for talking with us. You do just great so don’t worry about that. Always enjoy what you have to say and your outlook on things. You are always right on top of current issues. Keep her going. Got over half the corn seed in the ground so that is good. Go get em. Eric you are putting in some hours running fertilizer and land roller. Get some sleep too. Chet you are super busy with the seed tender and all that goes with it. And then doing some field work on top of that. Busy busy time for you and the gang. Hang in there. About it I guess. Thanks for everything Chet and everyone. Take care and be safe. The Iowa Farm Boy. Hi Doug, just a quick explanation on snow pack. I'm a Swiss ski patroller and here is my take on it. Unless you are in a permafrost region the ground will not freeze, the ground temp stays at around 32F or 0c. 80 inches seams like a lot but due to the sun, wind and super cold temperatures you guys get it will actually suck an enormous amount of moisture out of the snow pack. A great way to see that is surface hoar. the moisture taken out of the snow-pack creates jagged crystals on the surface layer (unless the wind destroys them) and I bet you probably see stalactites and stalagmites close to the ground layer which is a tale-tale sign of the moisture taken out of the ground. In Europe we are in a maritime climate and we only see that at high altitudes. You guys are in a continental climate which means you will see that phenomenon at lower altitudes. the continental climate and it's big temperature gradients creates huge temperature differences and creates way more evaporation. So come spring, all that snow has very little water content in it, and if it all melts in 3 days.... well, it'll all run off and not soak into the ground... sorry for the rambling ;) love the content, keep it coming! keeeeeep it comming !! lol

"suck an enormous amount of moisture out of the snow pack" I think its called sublimation...where snow goes directly into the air without melting first.

Spring snow is super saturated with water here in Alberta.
@yanndorset1725
@yanndorset1725 Жыл бұрын
@@colorado1088 yep, sublimation is when a gas or vapeur goes straight into a solid state. there is also a state of re-sublimation that occurs in certain circumstances. Anyway sublimation increases the size of the facets and creates instability in the snow pack not that it matters much in Dougo's case but yep I agree.

I use to work for Terra International back in the 90’s we got pot ash in for winter fill one year. Spring came and the pot ash was like concrete. We got dynamite cut a stick in half auger 4’ into the pile, half didn’t do anything. We tried 1, then 2 then 3 and then 4 sticks, 4 definitely broke it up. It rattled every wall in the building.
