I'm 64. Spent 8 days inside the combine. Working off the straw walkers. Had to make up boards and cover in carpet. The front access to replacing drum bars are via a pallet put on feeder house with foam.and carpet on top. Confined spaces is no fun with sharp edges and hanging outwards. Feel old pretty quick to say nothing of the up and down trips for tools etc. Just be thankful your not dealing with pigeon poop as well!

Your repair adventure on the excavator brings back memory of EVERY field repair we have ever done. As dad says, "the machines get newer and require you to be more flexible and I get older and can't bend anymore so it's a danged " conspiracy!" The machinery manufacturers are conspiring against me to cause me more physical pain. When I die, im going to come back and haunt them all." He keeps on saying that they should make it so you just pull 3 pins and the motor falls out, just like a 1970 Chevy Vega.

When i thought about the bottle being left in the excavator, my first thought was that it wasn't Brody, because everything you see him use is clean afterwards. I had to laugh though, because i could see a picture of Dougo going into full trouble bus fear mode. Seriously though, that could have been bad. Good on you fellas taking care of the fixalating, because Dougo is my age, and it starts being a bit rough on you when you have to crawl around under stuff. G-d bless y'all.

A bad day on our farm came when we burned a bulldozed grove into piles for burning. A barn burned to the ground and a grainery was saved by multiple volunteer fire departments. It turned into an event. Local ladies were selling coffee and sweets. Not kidding. I was 8 and it was a very exciting day for me. 1964. I will never forget watching my dad take off on the Oliver Super 88 in road gear to get to the house phone a half mile away to call the fire department. 7 miles away. Lac qui Parle county about a mile south west of LQP Lake.

Burn piles are why we have popcorn. Throw a few ears on the fire. Then try to catch the popped kernels as they come flying out. You do know that the design engineers go to great lengths to make sure components are almost but not quite impossible to service. Another great video.

Always enjoy the big swede taking the time to explain like the corn and it’s growth stages. I’ve heard others on other pages state well I know that way I have to hear it? I know the stages and most parts of farming but what they forget to understand is there’s alot of people that truly enjoy these pages don’t have any idea about anything in farming and they want to learn. So it’s really cool when u guys take the time to explain things to those that don’t know. Like I said I know a lot but not all so I even enjoy learning

Chet , to save on your knees and elbows working in those tight and hard to reach areas, they make a mechanics rubber pad which is about an inch thick , you will save a lot of skin . 👍

I work at a bobcat dealer and its funny to see the older techs (old as in late 20's early 30's) who are going to the chiropractor every week and say they will be in a wheel chair by 40, then we got our corporate service manager who is 67 years old 6'5" and has been working on bobcats and equipment for almost 40 years and somehow is in better shape than all of us

Order champ mats. Get both the big squares and the smaller ones to kneel on. Once you use them you will take them everywhere. Don't lay down on the big squares you will fall sleep they are that good.

You can get the root balls to burn up. Keep them pushed into the middle of the burn pile. After everything burns down around them, pull them out and drop them from about 10 ft in the air. The impact hitting the ground knocks an enormous amounts of dirt off the stumps. Throw them back into the pile and repeat until there is nothing left. No burying required!

True story from working on the farm in the summer near Asquith, SK in 1961. . . . a dairy farmer had some hay overheat in the barn loft. The barn burned. The Asquith Volunteer Fire Dept. had one firetruck at that time. Unfortunately, the only firetruck was having its engine rebuilt. . . . so, the volunteer mechanics were called and started working on the engine. The truck got to the fire about daybreak. . . . no problem. Imagine that! My uncle said that everybody gets excited about spraying the remaining glowing embers. The fire chief yells, "Prepare, . . . here comes the water!" "Hang on!" My uncle said that it was almost comical. He said a tiny stream came out. . . . In fact, he said that he could have peed more water than what came out. His wife, my aunt, said that he should have driven up to the embers and asked, "Do you mind if we roast some wieners on your embers?" We had a good laugh, but the dairy farmer had lost good hay. . . . The drought last year was compared to the summer of 1961. I had just finished my Grade 11. I recall having no rain days working on their house. You see, I was the resident carpenter that year. That summer has lots of good memories. Your conversations help bring back those memories. Thank you. By the way, my aunt was a great cook. . . . those were the days alright. 😊

Oh yeah check your sheaves or pulleys for wear cause it’s crazy how much they wear with all the dust and oil especially the crank cause I have a 345 that was overheating like you I changed belts , piulleys ,pulled the rad sent it out to be checked inside and out and did the thermostats but come to find out it was my crank pulley it was so worn that the ribs were barely visible

If you would have made the pile in/on the hole you dug for the rocks. The root balls would burn much better. Then you could put the rocks in and cover it up. Try it and you will never do it any other way.

Some excavators just don't have enough cooling for constant work on hot days. You will see some with the hood open or even removed. Often the bottom covers are removed to allow air to flow up as hot air rises.

Advise, to burn trees and brush 1. Dig a burn pit 2. Get an air blower, 3. Have a water tanker by 4. Once it stats have the excavate drop on trees and brush! Do ash no restocking! Safer! Done this many times on large highway projects through vegetation and trees

We had a T Hoe that overheated every time it got over 85... The remedy was to open both rear doors cause the enclosure is too tight to handle high temps. Or louver the back doors
