Wow there are time stamps in your videos now?! That’s so helpful thank you so much for making this. I got criticised recently and the person told me that I should “lower” my larynx while singing, I had no idea what to do and this video popped up, crazy timing! Now I’m gonna practice this. Thanks for the explanation as well.
@Victoria-Victorious
@Victoria-Victorious 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I just starting including time stamps. :) As far as your larynx lowering, if it is jumping or sitting too high, then you may need to allow it to lower. It all depends on the style and sound that you want.

Hi Victoria! I’ve been watching vocal videos on KZbin for probably 3 or 4 years now. And, somehow, I never came across yours until just a couple of days ago. I have to say, I think yours are the best I’ve seen yet! I just finished watching your video on larynx position singing. This has been a huge problem in my singing for many years. And the way you break it down makes more sense than probably 20 other videos that I’ve watched combined! I’m in my 50s and I’ve been playing guitar in rock and country bands since I was a teenager. But I only took up singing roughly 10 years ago. (There’s a story behind that) I never stopped to think about conditioning my voice the way I did with my guitar techniques. I don’t know why, it just never occurred to me. Perhaps because we use our voices every day and I just figured what I was doing was close enough for rock ‘n’ roll music. But after too many experiences of not being able to sing the songs I would like to sing, usually because they are out of my range, or ,actually blowing my voice out at a gig, I started seeking out instruction and coaching. I’m looking forward to watching more of your videos and purchasing your program. P.S. I love the humor you inject into your videos. It’s awesome!

Hi Victoria, if you happen to see this, could you consider making a video on getting back to singing after a break? I spent a year recovering from an illness and obviously couldn't sing. I'd want to get back on track but I'm afraid I'll strain my voice after such a long break. Thanks for all the awesome videos so far! Love your channel.

Tried your way of singing (i) with mainly the tongue and liked it. Less work than my previous method of singing (i) with lips in a sort of modified (u) position - all to avoid an 'eeeeeeeeee' sound. Thank you. However, I am a bit puzzled. If I follow you, the color of the voice changes with larynx position and I can see using different sounds for different music styles. But, are you using small larynx excursions for making the listener's perceived sound the same with changes in pitch? That is, do you use different larynx position in a song or do you choose the position and keep it for the song?
@Victoria-Victorious
@Victoria-Victorious 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, David! I do teach the rounded EE (i) position for a warmer fuller tone if that is the desired timbre. I cover that in my video on the EE vowel. As far as small larynx excursions, much of this depends (like I always say) on the sound that you want. I find that in classical, the excursions are less, but in pop, jazz and other contemporary styles, the excursions may be greater. However, regardless of style, I never teach that the larynx must stay in the exact position (meaning fixed or stuck). That usually leads to forcing the tongue down and depressing the larynx. That's why I like the word "float".

I am a countertenor and singing with a low larynx is a disaster for me and will wear my voice out faster than anything. I love classical but can't sing it due to vocal fatigue.
@Victoria-Victorious
@Victoria-Victorious 2 жыл бұрын
Without hearing you, I am assuming that you are pressing your tongue down and depressing your larynx in classical. This causes big problems in any voice or style.

Your videos are very helpful in my journey of singing, and are an excellent addition to my vocal coach. What happens if I am lowering my larynx substantially yet still feel tight in the throat especially when I sing in upper chest voice? Next day I am hoarse. My vocal coach often tells me to make things dopier but then I feel like I am depressing and pushing down my larynx quite a bit. And it doesn’t seem to make the tightness of the throat or squeezing go away. Is this a case of lowering the larynx “too much?”
@Victoria-Victorious
@Victoria-Victorious Жыл бұрын
It could be a number of things. I’d have to hear and see you to tell. You might be pushing up too much vocal weight. See my playlist on Mixed Voice. Also see my playlist on Throat Tension.
