In 1995, under Republic Act No. 8003, the old district of Las Pinas was declared as a Historical Corridor.
Under the Historical Corridor Project, it aims to preserve places of interest with historical and cultural value in order to help promote Las Pinas as a cultural site to local and foreign tourists.
The Old District of Las Pinas - stretching from Las Pinas-Paranaque boundary to Zapote - are filled with historical and cultural treasures, from the St. Joseph Church to the world-famous Bamboo Organ to the old district hospital and fire station to the ruins of Battle of Zapote Bridge to Gabaldon school built in 1907 to several ancestral houses including the 1880-built Lara House that once served as the municipal hall in the early 1900s. The whole stretch is now called Fr. Diego Cera Ave., a tribute to the Spanish priest who helped build the church and the bamboo organ.
Las Pinas is also known for salt-making, dried fish making, jeepney building and parol making, and we will be visiting these areas as we walk along Fr. Diego Cera Avenue.
Join me as we explore the Historical Corridor of Las Pinas on foot.
