Just had to do this myself on my 40K mile, garage-kept, F-150. After the dealership service rotated the wheels, they completely stripped some of the lug nuts. I could get most off with a larger socket, but I had to use the hole saw on at least 1 lug nut on each wheel. I immediately replaced all of them with 1-piece lug nuts so I never have this problem again. If I ever buy another vehicle that has these 2-piece lugs nuts, I’ll pro-actively replace all of them before it becomes an issue.

good 2 know, i have these wheelnuts on my summer wheels of volvo v50 2007 wich is produced under fords wings, now hoping that they will not swell during summer conditions. my winter wheels are made of steel with normal nuts without a chrome cover…

I had never come across such a daft idea before. You imagine a flat tyre at the side of the road only to find you cant get and of your standard wheel nuts off !!! seems incredibly short sighted of Ford.

Quite bizar those swollen wheel nuts. Glad you got them off, this one of those jobs that should cost you 2min but takes up 30 because of rust...

i use a 20mm 6 point impact that usually does the trick

Afternoon Mark Interesting. #freddyfocus is getting some luv. Albeit hard luv with a chisel & screwdriver to his nuts 🤔🤔🤔 I hate to be someone you DON'T like 😳😳😳 Breaks my heart seeing people used screwdrivers as chisels or punches 😱😱 I've never had any trouble whatsoever with this problem with all the Ford's I've had, my Son's Fiesta or his Focus included. Even my 2011 22k miles Fiesta I never have trouble each year I take the wheels of to check brakes & rotate the tyre's. And as you know my vehicle's live outside constantly. Great little bit of kit tho, the Laser 19.5mm socket. Do luv a Dremmel tool. I don't use mine nearly enough. Keep up the good work Stay lucky. Stay safe. Stay healthy. Alan L200

I know I know !!! why do we use screwdrivers as chisels and pry bars ahhhhhhh. I think the nuts are vulnerable after an impact driver is used on them as it can cause a slight split which then allows water in to do it's magic. I must buy some fine chisels and stop using screwdrivers now.

As all of the previous Ford's in my last msg including my 2011 Fiesta & my Son's latest Focus, I've used my 18v DEWALT impact gun on them all, but as I say, I've ad no trouble... And I know mechanics in the KNOW say NEVER use an impact gun on locking wheel nuts, but again I've always done it & had no ill sideffects. Aving said that.... 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞 You know what they say about speaking too soon 😝😝 Anymore #freddyfocus or #cosfrench video's coming out over the weekend? Av a great weekend Mark.
