I had laser iridotomy performed on both eyes on Friday in the UK. My eye pressures were normal and I had no issues, but my angles were rated a grade 1 and the trabecular meshwork could not be seen in any quadrant. I also have the plateau iris configuration. I have brown eyes so was warned that several laser shots might be needed, as the irises are thicker in dark eyes. I was also warned that there could be some bleeding as the blood vessels cannot be seen in dark eyes... The procedure was very straightforward. It felt like someone was flicking my eye, but it wasn't painful. I had 2 shots in each eye and there was no bleeding. I had been warned of blurry vision from the pupil constriction drops and a headache, but did not have either of these problems. You would not know I had anything done to my eyes as they looked completely normal - not even a hint of pink! I'm now 2 days post treatment and my right eye is a little achy and feels a bit "gritty". I have developed a horizontal white line in certain conditions - initially, it was only when I was driving in the dark, but I discovered this morning that it appears when driving in bright sunshine too. It doesn't obstruct my vision, it's more of an annoyance. When it first appeared yesterday, I thought I had a hair on my face and I spent some time trying to remove the hair. Hopefully my brain will get used to it over time and I'll be able to ignore it. Like I say, it doesn't hinder my vision in any way, I'm just aware that it is there...

I had the laser procedure done on both eyes 5 weeks ago and each eye was 6-7 laser shots, one week later I was checked by a different doctor and that doctor said that my right eye is ok but the left eye needs to do again because my iris is too thick. Thursday 23rd August 2023 I went for my laser treatment on my left eye, a different doctor did about 15 laser shots and then she went to get some help by getting another doctor which was a specialist to look at my eye and he did 6-7 laser shots to my left eye, all add up to more than 20 laser shots, for me this was not a good experience because all those shots were hurting, it’s not painless for me.

Yes I agree this is unusual . Where did you get your surgery done ?? Normally it doesn’t require that many shots as you can see from the video . Sometimes , If the opening closes down then the procedure is repeated . But numbing drops are used so that you don’t feel pain . Did you get it done in the US ??

My doctor attempted to do this surgery on me three (04/03/23) days ago. He used the laser on me but said that the white portion of my eye was super thick and referred me to another eye specialist with a higher powered laser. While I await another appointment; my right eye, in which the attempt was made, is super sensitive to light.

But that doesn’t mean people won’t opt for treatment plans. We give medicine ( eye drops ) such as steroids after the laser surgery and it has a great outcome. Good luck 🤞🏼

@dr.fatimaqureshi9803
@dr.fatimaqureshi9803 Жыл бұрын
Great question. It all depends on your iop being consistently within normal range . If optic nerve looks good with healthy NFL , then it all varies from doctor to doctor if LPI laser is needed. Sometimes , I do the laser surgery as a preventative measure. Also depends on how narrow the angle is both eyes. Grading system tells us how to asses future Angie closure. If it’s mildly narrow with TM showing , then a lot of doctors will just monitor your eyes on a yearly basis. Thanks for watching the video . Hi Doctor, In 2008 I had laser surgery done for narrow angles because my eye pressure was high. My pressure since then was normal (no eye drops) until two months ago when the pressure was 24. Two years ago my optometrist told me i had a "baby cataract". I was referred to my opthalmologist who prescibed timolol. I go back to him in May. Do you think my high eye pressure was caused from the cataract?

@@devyanichawla671 I would personally start treatment with glaucoma gtts first . And then proceed with laser surgery or more invasive procedure depending on the stage of glaucoma .

Eye muscle spasm is called blepharospasm. You should see an Oculoplastic surgeon for that . Sometimes unilateral eye twitching happens due to excess of caffeine intake , lack of sleep and too much stress. Regardless , pls see occuloplastic surgeon and maybe even neuro ophthalmologist. Good luck

I’m sorry to hear you have developed this problem . Where did you get it done ? I’ve never seen any patient develop peripheral vision problem after a laser surgery for narrow angle glaucoma . Normally advanced stage glaucoma causes this issue , but not laser surgery . How much is your intraocular pressure post laser ? How is your cornea ? Is there any edema ? All these can contribute to your vision problems .

@@rishabhdatta6991 I would suggest going back to the doctor who did the surgery and make sure you don’t have any inflammation. Rare side effect of laser iridotomy is permanent blurring and ghost effect / halos . See if these symptoms go away after a while . If not , then definitely seek help from your eye doctor who can determine if corrective lenses /contacts can be used . Positioning of the laser in the iris is very important . Is it’s well under the lid at 1 or 2 o’clock position , it has good results . Is yours in a different area in the iris ? Best of luck . Thanks for watching the video

Me too. I mean like a nail gun thru my face. The first laser was ok but never got fully numb... second laser machine... this one ...I almost flipped the table over on the second 'shot' and the Dr was yelling at me...I was screaming ridiculous things... didn't finish... now they still have to finish it and do the other one in a day or two and they're all pissed at me... I felt like I had been shot in the face for the rest of the day and they think I'm insane. I've had 3 babies... many kidney stones, many tattoos and a higher than average pain tolerance so I don't understand it at all. Same with my father... never heard him mention pain in 40 years until 'that day'. Seems so simple for most w no explanation for those of us who experience this. He was so mad at me which escalated things to total chaos. Had been diagnosed w cluster headaches and after two er trips in a week and the worst pain of my life... they figured it out. My nerves are shot and I'm literally almost ill from the anxiety of having to finish. Can't research because I can't see well right now/ read and I just don't understand why it was so horrific for me. Or you. Lol. Today the nice dr even said never in her career had she seen someone overreact like I did... and she wasn't even in the office that day so I can only imagine what she was told...I loved her and she was awful to me today. It's making this 1,000 x worse because I'm not the hysterical person they are treating me like and I know this isn't my fault and I certainly didn't think it was their fault and was super apologetic for not being 'typical' but they don't really won't even let me talk or question why this was so different for me. Like I'm just crazy and they've never even heard of this happening. Now I'm venting on KZbin at 5 am like a crazy person because I'm terrified, confused and just feel defeated. 😵😢

@@theshadylady1982 I had this done and I keep getting eyestrain afterwards. Had the first (right) eye done on 3/2/22 (had eye headaches afterwards) and the second eye done on 3/10/22 (3 shots of laser in the left eye). Have narrow angles without glaucoma, my mother had it too 25 years ago. I get eyestrain much more easily now, I hope it resolves soon. The second (left) eye seems a little less painful than the first one was. I have hazel eyes. I read that people with dark brown eyes need more laser shots to make the hole. I think he hit the right eye about 4 or 5 times. Ugh.

@@jdenino6022 I had one eye done today and my eyes are very dark brown, the doctor told me my eyes iris is way thicker than light colored eyes. I had like 8 shots with a mild laser and two shots with the more intense laser on two different machines. The first machine was used to open the hole halfway so that I won't have to experience the intense laser too many times. Is very uncomfortable like being tasered in the eye. I have narrow angles without glaucoma and this was done as a prophylactic procedure to prevent glaucoma if the angle closes further in the future.
