You can just do the anneal without the engraving. It will still mark the metal without the rough edges.

Unfortunately the laser isn't really capable of polishing due to how it interacts with the material. In order to gain a Polish you'd have to use a physical medium.

Yes quite a bit more. Larger lens = larger dot size of the beam = same power spread out over a wider area, so you need more power to compensate.

Hi. I recently had a custom 3D Galvo 80W MOPA fiber laser machine built and after a few months of getting everything worked out, it finally made it through customs and arrived a few weeks ago. I was involved in the design because after initially knowing very little about various laser types (physics in college was about it), I went down many rabbit holes during research and finally had a thorough understanding of lasers, particularly the fiber lasers. However, I am less than useless when it comes to having a thorough understanding of the software and particularly some of the names given to certain functions. Mine doesn’t have EZCAD, but the software is likely related because several things look just like EZCAD. I assume that it is essentially a 3D version more or less. I have been working with different file types and various settings, but I still have what seems like light years to go before being able to have confidence in the end result with different settings/material/effect/colors, etc for most things. I am colorblind also so changing settings to get all of the colors dialed in with stainless and titanium is challenging. I have a 110x110 lens for most things, and 175x175 for colors. My primary use will be firearm related, both customizing and building prototypes. I basically wrote this extended novel to let you know my predicament and see if you have 3D and/or MOPA settings. If not, would you be interested in collaborating and/or helping build a library? You are more than welcome to use it to do anything or try whatever and of course use it for engraving, milling, finishing, coloring, or whatever else it is capable of, including handling non flat materials without distortion or any problems. I have Team Viewer and can get other software if preferred. If not, if you can refer me to someone that would be great too. Thanks. Ray

Hey ray! Thanks for sharing your story, I'm color blind too so I hear ya on that! I am almost certain what you have is a modified version of ezcad3. I'm not going to be very useful in building settings for that but some of my staff are over on the DISCORD server. I HIGHLY recommend you join. It doesn't cost a dime and it's filled to the brim with people who have nearly identical setups. Every day they are sharing results and new settings. It's an open place where we value the free exchange of information. I honestly can not recommend it enough to you - it sounds like just what you need. It's a little weird when you first join if you don't have experience with the platform but just think of it as a glorified chat room. Over 500 members and so so so many are active daily. There's a phone app, a web app and a desktop app so it can be easily accessed from anywhere and may of us just leave it up on our laser computers while working on projects bouncing ideas off one another. Please consider joining us there. I think that's where we can be of the most use to you - and again it's free :P discord.gg/DnJQ2yZf

@LaserEverything2 жыл бұрын
You can attempt to use a marking spray like ceramark or brilliance laser inks but that's the only way to truely get a mark and I haven't found good settings for it yet. Otherwise the diode MAY be able to get hot enough to anneal stainless at very slow speeds but again I've been unsuccessful so far. We'll dive deeper into it in a future episode.

Is the annealing on the fiber the same as you say a cleaning pass?
@LaserEverything Жыл бұрын
A cleaning pass is usually a really light pass that just tickles loose soot and material off the surface, where an anneal could come after that to provide some contrast/color and even a layer of protection on the surface. In this case, we go straight for an anneal after the engrave without a dedicated cleaning pass since our basic settings with a single pass don't really leave much left on the surface to worry about cleaning off.

Why do my stainless steel business cards warp when I do a dark mark?
@LaserEverything10 ай бұрын
Heat warps the metal, it's getting too hot! You need to adjust the settings or create a heat sink with water/clamp them so they don't warp.
@swflscratcher589310 ай бұрын
@@LaserEverything not sure what you mean by water… but I know running a higher speed keeps it cooler but then the lines get streaks. Will more passes fill it in? Or should I change the line spacing to fill it in? Or does high resolution only happen with lower speed?
@LaserEverything10 ай бұрын
Dark marks require that time and heat. The problem is as the heat spreads across the card, it begins to warp the card as the metal pulls/pushes against itself from cooler zones and hotter zones expanding/contracting at different paces. Placing the card against a bath of water on the bottom, or sticking the back of the card against a heatsink can help pass the excess heat and slow that process down. Use caution with water and the laser reflection and of course water+electronics is bad too. Additional option is to pause the engraving in intervals to let the card cool, and do it in segments.

@LaserEverything Жыл бұрын
The process is pretty much the same as in the video, the key factor is you have a different frequency range available to you, and also the pulse width your source is locked to is a bit lower than the JPT we did this with. 50w Raycus sources usually have a range of 50-100 khz (usually), so I would say try working in the 75-100 khz range maybe, and you'll need to adjust for power, since we did this with a 30w, the same % power on your 50w would be almost double.
