LASH SERUMS EXPLAINED
I get a lot of questions about lash serums and I want to explain the two major categories of lash serums and which ones I'd personally try!
Dr. Sarah Blackwelder, optometrist reviews what to look for in a lash serum - which ingredients to avoid and which do I recommend.
She answers these questions and lists her top 4 favorite natural lash serums (and why). #lashes #lashserums #eyelashes #eyelash #eyelashserum #lashserum
Lash Serums I would personally try
1. Vegamour GRO Lash Serum vegamour.com/products/gro-las...
2. The Ordinary Multi-peptide Lash and Brow Serum theordinary.com/en-us/multi-p...
3. LASHFOOD Eyelash Enhancing Serum lashfood.com/products/lashfoo...

Working on a comparison video now! Lash lifts can have some side effects from the chemicals used as well as the glue used in the pads placed on the eyelids. Usually just irritation and possible allergic reactions on the skin. Rarely, but it can happen, chemical burn to the eye if it's open during application. I recommend finding a great experienced lash tech 😊

HI Doctor: Sure hope you get this post: Revitalash has a sensitive version to their best selling original eyelash serum. It contains one the "prost" analogues you mention...it is way down on the ingredient panel as opposed to the original version which has it about half way down of the ingredients that total about a dozen...the "prost" ingredient is about #7. The sensitive version has about double the ingredient panel and the "prost" ingredient is 2/3 down the list. The sensitive version also has the peptide 17 you mentioned so this sensitive version is a mix of good/bad...so to speak. Your thoughts on the positioning of the "prost" and with all the other ingredients listed with the sensitive version. Would you still stay away from it? Seems like it may take longer for the sensitive version to work but then again may be more acceptable to many who fear the nasties closer to the top of the ingredient panel? Again........your thoughts most welcome on this topic. Thanks so much! :)
@vibeoptometry
@vibeoptometry Жыл бұрын
Hi! I had a chance to look at Revitalash products and their ingredients. You are correct in that the sensitive version does still contain Ethylcloprostenolamide - that's the active lash growing ingredient and it is a prostaglandin analog. It likely will still produce some of the same side effects of redness, skin discoloration, and iris discoloration. It's possible it is in less of a concentration compared to the best selling original serum, but it's hard to say because there are so many other added ingredients. Personally, I prefer the peptide only serums. I just don't think the side effects of prostaglandin analogs are worth it. Hope this helped!

As a doctor I assume you’re aware, but in the US ingredients have to be listed in order of concentration in the ingredient list. So I’m confused why you would say companies are being sneaky about where they place their ingredients on the list. Unless you’re trying to suggest they’re being dishonest about how much of the formula is made up of these ingredients, there’s nothing sneaky about including it toward the end of the list. Active ingredients frequently make up a pretty small portion of any cosmetic formula, either because not much of them are needed to have an effect or because additional ingredients (like water and conditioning agents) are required to make the product spreadable and/or even just safe to use. The only time I would say a company is being sneaky when they have an active ingredient far down the list is when they’re advertising that ingredient as a selling point of the product and you can tell from the position on the ingredient list that there’s not enough in it to have much effect. Since the Prost based serums do work (at least in my experience!), I would presume that a pretty low concentration of the Prost ingredient is needed and since it has the potential for irritation, toward the bottom of the ingredient list is exactly where it should be since higher concentrations would likely increase the risk of side effects. Also, I find it weird that you seem to talk about potential side effects as if they’re likely to happen to most people who use them. The FDA studies for Latisse showed the iris discoloration and skin irritation happening to a pretty small number of participants. This is pretty in line with my own experience using these products. I’ve used both Latisse and several of the over the counter alternatives (revitalash, grande lash, etc.) and never experienced any side effects at all despite using them off and on for over a decade now. And I’ve got pale skin and blue eyes so discoloration and redness would be hard for me to miss! Nearly all medications we take, from antibiotics to allergy meds to antidepressants, have the potential for scary side effects if you read the fine print. But we take them anyway because the chances that they’ll do what we want them to do with little to no side effects is generally much higher than the chance of them doing harm. I don’t see lash serums as any different. It’s good to make people aware of what could happen so they they know what to look for if something goes wrong so they know to stop using it, but the side effect list shouldn’t be spoken of as if those things are inevitable when they’re not.
@vibeoptometry
@vibeoptometry Жыл бұрын
Prost ingredients at any concentration have the potential to be irritating and damaging to the ocular surface. Putting it lower on the list does reflect it’s concentration within the ingredient list as a whole, but “sneaky” in the sense they aren’t overtly advertising these serums as being prostaglandin based, which IMO is misleading unless you know their chemical name. Google every ingredient and research them all yourself? That’s a lot of extra work to be a truly informed consumer so seems pretty sneaky to me.
