Brought tears to my eyes as well. I lived in the village until the age of 8. We lived in Dunscroft on Polton Road which is in one of the photos. I remember my father taking his car to Burn’s garage. There were a few shops in those days as well. The Smith’s had the Post Office but they also sold lots of other things like Corgi toys which were displayed in the window. I remember their son Roger having a very groovy Moulton bike. Miss Black had a fab shop where you could even get coffee ground for you. My mother had an account and used to send me down to get various items for her. There was also Stirling’s and Ma Clarke’s. I remember the mill siren going off. We went off the States and Canada for a year and when we came back the mill had closed. The derelict mill became our playground and we used to swing around the mill chimney before it was demolished as there was a conveniently placed rope. I too have memories of Mr Clelland . He had written a book on arithmetic called I think ‘ The Daily Ten’ . He went off to be headmaster at Hawthornden and was replaced by Mr Robertson.Mrs Binnie was a great teacher. Jenny Lockhart could be a bit scary. We had Miss Simpson as a teacher and she used to wear Scholl type clogs. The first day of term she came into class gently tapping the strap against her thigh in a ‘Don’t fuck with me ‘ manner. There was also Mrs Gray and her husband was the local doctor. In some of the photos, there is Mr Green who used to run the scouts. His wife use to be our PE teacher and their family lived up the road from us in Polton Road. I live abroad now , but both my parents are buried in the cemetery. I visited 4 years ago. Probably more people living in Lasswade now but does not appear to have the life that it once did. Very enjoyable video. Brought back many happy memories.

Really fascinating, thanks for posting.I wonder if Headmaster Mr Clelland is the same Mr Clelland who was the Headmaster of the 'new' Hawthornden Primary school when I started there in 1972. I'm sure he retired the same year or not long after. We had a wee playground poem about him, 'I'm telling, you're smelling, right in front of Mr Clelland'.

Mr Clelland left Lasswade in I think about 1968/9 to become headmaster at Hawthornden and was replaced by Mr Robertson at Lasswade. We had the same poem about Clelland when I was at Lasswade. He also wrote a series of arithmetic books called the ‘ The Daily Ten’ .

I'm guessing it's the lane that runs up the side of the church. Mrs Clark was my Gran so I'm guessing you knew a lot of my uncles and aunts back in the day.
