Junko's and Ballos' circumstances are actually very similar when you think about it; both of them had something something taken away from them (a son, and basically everything respectively), and then they went on an unstoppable rampage as a result. Moreover, even after having killed the source of their initial hatred, it just kept coming anyway.

Good luck, I first played Cave Story back in the 2000s, and I believe I cleared the good ending for the first time back in 2017!

Just the act of getting to Ballos and having a sliver of health is hard. Save the life pot for the entire game. That's my tip for getting through the Ballos fight.

Even though many people don't talk about Cave Story much nowadays, it went on to inspire Toby Fox to make Undertale. I highly recommend it, you can even play it for free!

Sad but fairly reasonable considering the original game released 18 years ago. An enhanced version made for steam, Cave Story+, was released in 2011 and the most recent port of the game was for the Nintendo Switch in 2017. All-in-all the game is pretty old and is not talked about much outside of fan projects like Cave Story Encore anymore which I imagine has something to do with its current visibility.
