My local Wrench-A-Part usually pays at least $325 for most vehicles including free pickup. I bought my current daily driver "Goldie", a 1998 Lincoln Continental, from a junk dealer six years ago for $1,400 when it had just 126,000 miles but had several issues that would have run up a hefty shop bill. My biggest repair expense was replacing the catalytic converters ($300) and then it took me about a month of tinkering while I was still driving it to sort out what ended up being a camshaft sensor failure. I've put on another 65,000 miles and its been mostly just two sets of Walmart tires and two batteries. I'm selling it now and moving on to a newer used car, but after getting to know Goldie I'll miss this Lincoln when it gets a new owner.

Wrench -A- part sounds like a brilliant name for a wrecking yard.😁🔧👍That’s a great deal with the free pick up! I guess it depends on when you sell your vehicle. A few years ago, I got 325 for my old 2005 caravan after the Transmission gave out around 440,000 miles sold Vicky to the same place, Braven metals whatever the current price of metal is at the time it fluctuates with the market. Lincoln town cars, crown Vicks, those things run forever! Some of the best vehicles Ford ever made. Thanks for commenting, Thomas ✌️

Hey Russ. I didn’t know Vicky… but I wish her well on her journey. Cheers

Thanks, Bobby she has a whole playlist. Almost 50 videos, I’ve always wanted the videos to be helpful. Her last video tapping on the starter is doing OK. I had to do that to get her started to drive her to the metal vehicle sole reaper. She was helping people out until the end. 🙏😓 thanks for commenting buddy ✌️🎸 rock on.

Sorry to see her go, much too young.

@@turbotom416 I noticed they upgraded the mounting brackets in 2001 or 2002 🤔 was this a pretty common problem back then? The engine bracket was mounted to the engine through those three long bolts? I heard it’s the main reason why the idler pulley comes out of alignment allowing the belt to keep coming off the reason for the V belts and pulleys?

I've had about 20 cars in my life and they've all been towed away for a hundred bucks.
@RussShawTVАй бұрын
That’s the way to do it. Drive them till they drop! I like to fix them as much as I can within reason. Unfortunately, I don’t even have a garage and I live in the Seattle area where it rains a lot. Not afraid of a little rain, but old Vicky here would need to have her motor pulled to extract two broken bolts out of her block. I don’t have the resources and paying in a shop to do. It would cost way more than she’s worth.

Sorry but those tail lights look like something that belong on a pimpmobile. I have a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis with 391,000 miles on it, never had any serious problems with it, still run like new. It was white, and half the white paint peeled off, so it's now white and gray spotted. I've driven it for 13 years and almost 300,000 miles. Late last year I came upon a like new 2007 Grand Marquis for sale buy the original owners, with only 36,000 miles on it. It had been garaged all it's life, and they had a ton of service records for it. I am a recently retired mechanic with 37 years experience. I gave it a good going over, and the only thing I found wrong was it needed new windshield wipers. I'm in Phoenix, AZ, and the sun can destroy windshield wipers very quickly. I have put some highway miles on it, but have not used it as a transportation car yet. I intend to drive the 2006 until I have a major engine or transmission failure (I've already replaced all the timing components) then start using the 2007. But I will not get rid of the 2006. I'm keeping it for a parts car. I'm also hoarding parts that may become difficult to find in the future. I was a government fleet mechanic, and worked on hundreds of Crown Vics, the Grand Marquis is the same car. I know it inside, outside, and upside down. They are the most reliable cars ever made. I intend for the 2007 to be my last car.

@@geraldscott4302 wow, thanks for sharing your story Gerald! Yes! Those crown Vicks are super reliable. When I worked at Ford, there was a few of them that rolled in with over 300,000 miles. One was a former police cruiser with around 360,000 miles. I think why I stick with the Dodge caravans / Town & Country also the same vehicle, is because the first one I owned, when I bought in 2004 used it was a 2005 with 16000 miles on it, I ended up putting 438,000. (There’s a video of it here on my channel somewhere) miles on it before it finally died of transmission failure. I kept up with that van oil changes and transmission, fluid changes, etc. I tell people you take care of your car. Your car will take care of you! Good to hear from you, my friend, again thanks for commenting.

So silly lol. If it was such a great car, you’d think you’d try to make it work out. Even if you had to wait and save. This is why classics die out. Because people just toss them like trash when they have a problem
@RussShawTVАй бұрын
@@Mcarey70 I would agree, but if these comments are aimed at me. You have no idea what you’re talking about, you haven’t watched previous videos obviously. My neighbor was going to sell her to the wrecking yard back in March of 2020. There’s a playlist of 39 “Vicky” videos you could go ahead and watch those if you like. Or you can sit on your throne of self righteousness and judge me for having such a “great car”.
