Last ever Cross Country HST 43007 & 43008 Depart Plymouth 18-09-23

Final day for the Cross Country HST passenger service out of Plymouth. Only 1 set out working 5E63 from Laira to Plymouth to form 1E73 16:27 Plymouth to Leeds (via Westbury divert).
2 Celebrity Powercars 43007 (Blue & Yellow Intercity) along with 43008 (Intercity Swallow) was hauling the last passenger departure with 8 Mark 3 Carriages. Nice nameplate on 43008 (Cross Country High Speed Train Farewell)
Train carriages used for the set were 44012 + 42376 + 42097 + 42377 + 42373 + 42378 + 45003 + 41193
These will be missed on the Cross Country network. Thanks to the driver for the awesome tones on departure. These will be operating the Cross Country to Swanage tour from Leeds via Bournemouth on the 26th September 2023.

My only theory, whether it's correct will be remain to be seen, is 43184 will be in the museum alongside 002 & 102 as if so, the three are wearing different Intercity liveries.

What’s going to replace them? I will be going to Middlesbrough around Christmas time - up until last summer, I used those to go between Taunton and Darlington (sometimes York) and back again - I only hope that their replacements will have things like more legroom, bigger and better storage space for luggage, wider aisles and no standing passengers - I usually reserve a seat for that journey- the local train service between Darlington and Saltburn (I disembark at Middlesbrough) has enough people on board to justify its use, but is usually never overcrowded - the catering has evolved over the years - used to be a buffet car in the middle (a throwback to the Inter-City days) where you could get a proper dinner, and a snack area where you could get crisps and drinks - they even used to sell headphones for people who had forgotten theirs - then it was a struggle trying to get your food and drink back to your seat without spilling it all over someone’s laptop or best Moss Bros suit - got worse when that was moved to coach F at the rear and I was in coach C - proper dinners were done away with - snacks or nothing, if you were in for the long haul - in more recent years, they sent someone round with a trolley - but it’s difficult when the train is nearly at your station - I have a good hack for that - I start to head out to the vestibule about ten or fifteen minutes out of York going up, unless I change at York, in which case, some fifteen minutes out of Leeds, and, coming back, some distance beyond Bristol Temple Meads! Would help if they had sideways-facing seats - more legroom, no having to ask the total stranger next to me to get up so I can go to the loo - that’s why I prefer to have the double seat to myself for the entire journey - then I am not inconveniencing the other person by having them get up so I can use the loo or disembark - if I have the aisle seat, I can just get up when I need to - but the occupant of the window seat has similar issues - if I get the whole seat to myself, then neither of us needs to inconvenience each other - with sideways-facing seats, those problems would not be present - might be difficult for users of laptops, though!

Additional Voyagers will be coming in from Avanti West Coast with the Hitachi fleet not far from delivery. don't know when that will happen though.

It ran light with 43366 to Neville Hill in Leeds a few days ago 🤔 I hope the operators of the Blue Pullman or other private lines will scoop up at least 43007/008/184 in their retro colours? It would be a real shame to see them all cast aside or scrapped 🤔👀

I do love the Deltics when they are on tracks, great sound, hopefully there might be one that will get preserved, I think they've done well to be operating for more than 43 years. they are passed there sell by date.
