Had our well here in Maine drilled last fall. Have 60gpm at 320 feet. Water level is constant at 83” from top of casing. Going to come to you for pump and other materials. I know I can get this hooked up myself after watching most of your videos. Happy New Year!

We used hey hooks to handle those mats, they made the job easier to move them.

Well!! Not everything always goes as one wants, it hasn't happened to us who work in percussion and to my colleagues who work in rotation as well and who have drilled deeper, up to 700 foot and don't produce a gallon, one would always like to bring satisfaction to the client, but nature also plays its role, in our case as my father says or taught me, we cannot guarantee quantity or quality of water!! We drill to find and extract water and not everything will always go well!! My father with more than 50 years of experience in my case 18 years in percussion!! Deeper wells by lakes makes sense as the ground is obviously not allowing as much water to soak in, keeping surface water away from the aquifer. An area with shallow wells (like where I an at now) doesn't have any lakes or natural ponds that hold water and snowmelt quickly disappears.

Get you some 1/2 rope and tie you some pulling ropes on that Black mat way easier to pull around the jobsite .we cut off about 10 foot of rope and go from 1 hole to the other hole on the 4foot side of the mat

For me not knowing the process but I live near the ocean, it seems counter intuitive that near a large body of water there’s less ground water but as you stated the solid rock makes sense. Weird how the world beneath our feet works

My well: 60' deep, 100 gpm, 20' static level. 6" schedule 40 pipe casing, pounded down as the well was drilled as it is sand and cobble, drill head collapsed and withdrawn through the casing after reaching 60'.

Near Rhinelander WI ,which sits on the WI River, had to run city water from town out to the new sewage treatment plant because they couldn't get the volume of fresh water they needed for plant operations from a well on site

I have worked in electronics all my life but a well problem I kind of pushed forward, not knowing exactly what to do when. I find your videos uplifting and very educational. My wells each produce about 1/10 gpm, we use 2 to supply our domestic water needs and collect rainwater for outdoor, garden, livestock needs. It's possible to live on that, you just have to be thoughtful.

Beware of aluminum in the rain water. Known fact that it has been tested and it does now show that at varying levels. Don't know if plants suck that up or not. Personally I don't drink rain water. Could you tell if your pig got dementia? Things to ponder.

I love watching your content. You talk a lot about how to check tanks, and how everything operates which is great. What are some of the dangers a driller may face? I hate to hear when someone gets hurt on the job, but it happens daily. I am sure that loosing balance on an outrigger can cause equipment damage, you have mentioned about getting a hammer head stuck, but I am sure there are a lot more things that can happen. I would love to see some content dedicated on the dangers of drilling and fracking. Happy New Year and I hope you have a safe and productive 2025

I thought you were drilling through a monolithic layer and that hydro-fracturing simply broke up the rock leaving fissures into more monolithic strata; (hence a good footing for a dam).

I'm sorry for the homeowners. You live in an odd geological area. Having such a deep layer of unfractured granite is unusual. But it's from the plate tectonics placing it there. Besides the extinct volcanoes that make up the Appalachian mountain range. Nothing is surprising there. Hopefully, fracking will help make more water.

I'm looking to make the same thing, What is the size Length / Depth of the Tines, did you use common 1/4" in. Hot Roll Steel Flat Bar, or say 3/8" in. AR500 Steel ? Those mats have small holes to be pulled by a j hook. like a dairy hook. they should glide right across the ground. Saw that on tank masters. no need to lift on installation.

So do you also have tank water off the roof of the house and sheds in areas like this, or just rely on wells for water? Here in Australia wells, or bore water as its usually called, is not that common for domestic houses, but is often used for irrigation on farms

thats a wild lifter setup you have, pretty slick. i have an older simco 5000 mud rotary, its crazy seeing different methods and tools. i cant imagine the fuel you go thru in a day with all that air and a 450 lol at like 17 min before checked staic, did you say that was over reaming, like to make a space for grout?

If the rock is solid what good will fracturing do? OK, you break up the rock but where does the water come from to fill the voids if the surrounding rock is still solid?

@boblowell4809 basically there are areas that can stopped up with sediment naturally, preventing water from flowing into the well. Fracking uses high pressure water to blow those cracks clean & allows them to flow water.

H2O Mechanic You said drilling near the dam is tough. Is it just the geology of the area that makes it hard or does the proximity of the dam play a part? Oh and the check valve is interesting. I'm not sure I have seen you use that before.

Btw: the water ist right behind the damm. Simply build a horizontal Pipe into the reservoir and suck the water out. ;-)

Most states won’t allow you to deepen an existing wells, I lived in Arizona where that was prohibited, the driller pointed out it’s a heavy fine if he got caught.

@harley2die4 the steel casing is 50 years old. & might need replacing. The cost to drill an old well deeper is not a cost savings unless the old hole is 300ft or more. It's like putting a new engine in a 1970s car, the rest of it is still old & can have problems.

I wonder how much they pay. For like the helper or trainees. it seems like there isn’t any move up for Mike. He just stays a helper no matter what. Allways is just the grunt no matter his loyalty and how long he has been there. Does he get to eventually start going on his own.

Mike has a CDL which is the most invaluable part so he can legally drive the trucks. If an employee wants to get a Well Contractor Class A license, then yes he could be taught to drill. But that's not our goal. It's just 3 of us, we all work together as a team. Each has their duties throughout the day. It's a small family run business, not Amazon or Microsoft, so there's no ladder to climb. Every he does, I did for 15 years. Running a rig isn't easy, & a mistake can cost you 20-50k so that why the owner runs the rig. If seen other companies teach employees to run a rig, they are abused machines, people missing fingers or hands or toes, or you create your own competition.
