I'm from Shrewsbury and have lived here all my life, I'm 42 and both sides of my family are also Salopians and I can say with absolutely authority on the matter that it really is split between the people of Shrewsbury on how we pronounce the name of our home town. Half of us say "Shewsberry" and the others say "Shrowsbury" and both pronunciations are acceptable. Whenever Shrewsbury is featured on the TV this question always seems to crop up and it's presented in a way that the answer is somewhat controversial or mildly offensive to us locals; but reality is both pronunciations are correct and that's the way ur always has been.

No George Riley should have got a life Sentence not death as one killing does not justify another and when I say life I Mean a full life Sentence as I've been against the Death Penalty for year's and what made Me a lifelong Ablonishonist was Derick Bentley and look how long that tuck into clearing his name 45 year's and thank God that we no longer have Hangings in this Country

George was just a tough guy, with the proper parenting he might have made better choices. Sounds like he could have been rehabilitated since he felt remorse at the end. Most killers these days like the ones in Chicago should meet a swift end.

No. You’re wrong. His conviction wasn’t quashed. He was given a posthumous pardon. He was guilty of constructive homicide/joint enterprise. What convicted him was the disputed “let him have it, Chris’. The gun or the bullet? There was no disputing Craig’s guilt. He was seen to fire the fatal shot. His youth saved him from the gallows.

You do realise that numerous countries have sent innocent men and women to the gallows/firing squad/electric chair/lethal injection gurny? The whole reason the death penalty was abolished in the UK was because several innocent people had been sent to the gallows.... I know of several people who have received life sentences in the Netherlands the past couple of decades who had eventually overturned many years later. Had we had a death penalty in this country those people would have received it, and quite likely been executed before the justice system realised their mistakes. No justice system is perfect, and so long as no justice system is perfect the death penalty should never be allowed.
