There was a horrible one once the guy saved up all his medication and took it. He almost died, but they flew him to hospital. Had a stomach pumped and then bought him back to be executed.

@@lunity1111 that was probably because his family would have tried to sue them if they hadn’t. It’s like putting a condemned prisoner on a suicide watch. If the authorities don’t go through all the proper channels they get slammed. There was one guy on death row who, with his brother, killed four people. He stabbed himself in his eyes with a pencil rendering him legally blind. Because of the uproar he was carefully watched. Then he managed to hang himself somehow with a bedsheet.

They live on death row not knowing if the today's the day - the guards simply come get them and lead them to the execution chamber. I attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX. The Huntsville Unit (aka the "Walls Unit") was pretty much right next to campus and I always knew an execution was about to happen because news trucks and others would park in parking areas closest to the prison that were meant for students. I started checking online occasionally for scheduled executions so I would know when to avoid that side of campus.

In honorable mention was Lawrence Russell Brewer back in 2011 he was sentenced to death and for his final meal he ordered a bunch of food but when it finally came he refused to eat any of it and because of that Texas eliminated the last meal so the standardized meal is your last meal if your sentence to death in Texas

I’d never be able to eat food if I knew I was going to be executed. I’d probably just drink tea the English way with milk and coffee with creamer. My menu? Two dozen Escargot, pizzabread with a hue of tomatosauce & garlic, Insalata Frutta di Mare, a charred T-Bone Steak and corn on the cob with a baked potato and sour cream on the side, one dozen shrimp in garlicbutter, another dozen battered shrimp with tartar sauce, a mixed salad with Ranch Dressing and as dessert cornbread & pumpkin pie with vanilla ice cream. All homemade of course, or at least prepared by myself, hence to spite the Reaper one last time. As beverages one pint each of cappucino, rose wine (alc free due to regs) and a pint each of Spezi & DR. Pepper. And don`t forget a pack of Chesterfield or Lucky Strike, nonfilter of course, lit with a Zippo. Let them clean up the mess left thereafter.

Most states stopped offering the last meal, many death row inmates ordered lavish and sprawling meals, only to not eat anything of it, wether to spite the jailers or just get a last screw you in, they ruined it for the others. Now they will typically just receive a regular food tray, which isn’t food. I have literally seen “Not for human consumption” stickers on alot of jail dietary products. Been in and out my whole life, doing better now but still, the way inmates get treated here in America is so effed up.

A curiosity I've always had is the 'favorite songs' (or artists/albums) of serial killers. Or even if they tended to play music in the background while they did their deeds? I don't imagine detectives ask that kind of question much, but it's been a question of mine for decades: what was the last music/voice/song some people heard while they were captive? For some reason, it feels like it would be a psychologically revealing topic, but I've never heard anyone else mention or discuss it.
