Don't get a German Shepherd. Go to a local shelter, find a shepherd mix and adopt it instead. It will have less health problems, live longer and love you more than a puppy mill dog. You'll be doing a shelter a favor by adopting a bigger dog, and you won't regret it, I promise you. I have an adopted pit bull mix that is terrifying to strangers but a complete sweetheart to my family.

Every animal I've ever had, currently 2 dogs and 5 cats, have been adopted. The German shepherd I plan on getting in a few years will be a working dog. Guard and shepherd duty. We own a plot of land that we are building a retirement home. We plan to live off grid with livestock. A trained German shepherd from a reputable breeder will be unmatched in this situation.
