@sailingelectricgitana12863 жыл бұрын
Don't forget to have some sandpaper and paint ready to touch up the spots the keel is resting on. You should be able to get access when the boat goes on the trailer and it will dry on the drive to the water.

Get a couple desiccant containers to put inside of the electronics box to soak up the humid air.
@nearlynormal3 жыл бұрын
I thought the same thing. But where would you dry out the desiccant? Maybe keep a small cloth bag of rice in there that can be rotated out as he cooks it. Another thought; With all the work he'd done, the inside of the boat is likely to be much drier than before.

FYI, you probably won't run into any problems but that steaming light LED won't pass USCG approval due to the necessity for a 225 degree viewing angle on the white light. This is why all the steaming lights (and all the other navigation lights, for that matter) have lenses which protrude out from the mast/cabinsides/etc. You need to be able to see the light from more than just directly in front of the boat, and the led strip you mounted will really only be visible for maybe 50-60 degrees off the forward centerline.

Might not be a bad idea to to install a uscg approved steaming light. I am no pro but i remember hearing a story about a drunk power boater hitting a sailboat . Sailboat guy lost the case because his steaming light wasn’t uscg approved.

Check the COLREGS requirements for your masthead light. The reason the original ws placed a bit in front of the mast was that it met the 22.5 deg abaft the beam. Just saying

Mast white light to LED conversion: what angle can you see the replacement v. The original... Little pinpoint lights aren't tail light/ headlights even if the same Lumens. Have to see from the side, etc. Kewl aside add LED light to the thru Hull... Might want to keep the handle, as a go bag, rapid exit to life raft/escape pod... Car body goop work in Marine environment? FibreGlass but ... Idk Guess find out miles from shore...

Hello Sam, I have been watching your channel. Great insight for a CD28. I am potential buyer of a CP28 similar as yours at initial state. Can you tell me how much did you spend in rigging, standing and running? And until now more or less your all investment in the boat to offshore? Thanks in advance and always great sailing, Paul

Sam, I have been watching you for a few months now. Before you go on your next Journey, I have a few questions. Are you able to get any satellite internet access at all in the middle of the ocean? If so, are you aware of the GOES satellites? There are two of the satellites that will cover the Pacific and the Atlantic. Not only do they provide imagery, but also precipitation estimates so it could be used similar to weather radar. I am a trained storm spotter for the National Weather Service and I'm developing a web-based app, but if you are not aware of the potential of this I can show you how to use the imagery anytime. This would be using free software, of course. I'm only saying this because if you are not aware of it... it is an amazing tool to have out there.

@@samholmessailing apparently a mobile version will be coming out next year. Delays are probable, but it will apparently be deigned with campers, RVs and boats in mind. The current version takes a ton of power and a while to set up, while being locked to one address.
@bhartley10242 жыл бұрын
Starlink Martime is supposed to be coming out soon, but the price is insane at the moment, $10,000 for the hardware and $5,000 per month for the connection. Makes sense for large commercial ships and billionaire megayacht owners, but not for little guys like us.
