Note that level of applicant interest is measured not only in visiting but also in signing up for mailing lists, webinars, clicking through links on their website etc. universities have a lot more data than you realise!

I plan to take 5 months of coding courses before submitting my application for January 1st, I'm applying as a CS major. Will this help? I start August 1st I'm an African international student needing a full ride.

I don't want to sound rude, but I don't think that will help. I'm not applying to anything related to CS but I have two years worth of coding experience under my belt, and even I wouldn't be able to get in. Don't get me wrong, 5 months of coding courses (especially if you take very difficult courses) is awesome, but CS is the most popular major atm in most colleges. People find it hard to get in even if they've developed apps and stuff. But also take what I say with a grain of salt because it varies depending on the college ofc. But if you're applying to a T20 college or even a T50 college, chances are very low unless you have something else very impressive under your belt. Also, if you desperately want to get in, try applying as a different major that is related to CS but isn't CS, that way you'll have a higher chance of getting in.

@@unknowns78 CS is a very impacted and competitive major, it's the most popular major in most top colleges now and it's also offers some of the highest paying jobs. So obviously, since it's that competitive, the number of people applying as CS major will be astronomically large as compared to other, less competitive majors. As a result you'll need waaaaay more impressive achievements to even dream of getting into a T10 or even T50 college as a CS major. So instead of applying as CS major applying as something related to CS would lessen the competition, and your chances would be better. But keep in mind this isn't really about quotas- colleges don't have specific quotas for majors, but at the same time they can't really let their entire class in one year be CS majors, can they? That'd be disproportionately skewed. That's why I said that.

@@unknowns78 for example, I came across the youtube channel of this one person who was word class in robotics and had a bunch of international awards in robotics and AI. They applied as a CS major, and they applied only to T20 colleges. Guess what? They didn't get into A SINGLE college on their list. Now, there could've been a number of different reasons why that was the case. Maybe their essays weren't up to the mark, maybe their letters of recommendation were iffy. But I'm inclined to think that since they applied regular decision to most of those colleges, the colleges had already taken a lot of world-class CS applicants in the early decision round. And that's why people are usually advised to apply early decision/early action if they have really great achievements.

Skip college, learn a skill that has high demand low supply, they will hire people with the knowledge and no experience, maybe you get paid less but you work there for a bit to gain the experience. This is what I did in my IT career, this is how a I was earning more than college graduates two years later, this is how I became the boss of 28 year olds at 22. School is a joke
