Update: As you guys might see, the free application review service Calendly link isn't currently active. We simply don't have enough members in our team to conduct that many meetings so for now that will be down while we focus on our consulting clients I'm really really sorry for anyone who was trying to book a meeting and weren't able to get a chance to get an application review, I'll try and see what we can do to bring that back in the near future I hope you all understand 🙏

My life was a mess when I was 16 and dropped out at Melbourne Australia high school due to tiredness and stress. I’m 27 right now but I still believe in change, hit the gym. In a 4 bedroom house with my Mum who is over 60. Brother has his own 900k house with his wife no kids. Can’t see where my life is going, but change is possible but it will be a long term.

Hey man, Now I can't say that I can truly understand what you're going through but I appreciate you commenting. It's best to share our burdens with one another and most importantly support each other. High schoolers might say "you're a fossil!" but man, 27 in the grand scheme of things is nothing. You have so many years, so many opportunities, so many moments of joy to experience and make the most of. "The best way to predict the future is to create it." - Abraham Lincoln Work hard and keep at it because the life we all dream of is there and it's possible. I'm a freshman and I'm watching all I can to improve myself,it's a bit hard because where I live there's no ap classes and the only extracurricular we have is sports,which I would love to join but everyone is just really rude and harsh on beginners 😭I play 3 instruments,take part in every oratory contest(public speaking),do art and I'm at the top of my class but honestly I don't think its impressive. Im planning to run for Student Council President when Im a senior,join the chess club,join debates and join more activities which I enjoy (like dancing,singing and more instruments^^) :D I feel really burnt out and i dont know how to catch the attention of the people when they look at my achievements and stuff.I tried to build my confidence by joining competitions but that only made it worse and ruined everything.Everything is biased and it feels like you have to be a certain age or race to win.However,This year I want to make a change!!:DD Im learning more pieces,getting more serious about studies and I'm working on improving my skills in other areas!!Im not gonna let my emotions and failures take me downn!!>:) I typed too much,sorry😭 I found this video informative and helpful,Thank you :) *Consistency*,in my opinion,is one of the biggest and really important value that will help you be successful:DD

Good luck to you. My recommendations would be to consider taking online ap courses or dual enrolling at a local college. Dual enrollment is nice, because if you can get your prof. to like you, you can become a college tutor or join a summer research program while still in high school. That’s what I did. Regarding student council, if they let you run for multiple positions, by all means run for president. If not though, I’d advise to run for a safer position that will help set up a good resume to become student council president in your later years. I’m just saying this because, in any school, it’s super unlikely for a freshman to become student council president. It’s almost always going to be a senior or junior, not just cause of academics, but because of connections & reputation.

I can feel your energy. If I knew everything that I knew in Junior and Senior year, I could have easily made it to the Ivys. Love learning, lock in, and think about your purpose. If you figure out your purpose, making it into an ivy will turn easier. There is bias on race, but I sternly believe that you can do anything you set your mind to. It’s just a matter of sticking with it for that extra few miles. Good luck, and I hope your future plays out like you want it to.

Hi! I go to Duke and my advice would be to keep trying new things but stay consistent with one/two clubs that you enjoyed this year! I had no idea what I wanted to do freshman year but I stayed consistent with some interests and then was able to cater that to a specific narrative for applications senior year. If your school has honor societies for languages (French or Spanish), I’d recommend joining/ getting a leadership role in that because no matter what your major you apply with is, it shows your dedication to expanding your learning. And then my last tip would just be joining anything that expands your community outreach whether it’s by volunteering or advocating- as that isn’t major specific but it proves you to be a good citizen of society!

I’m not in college or even high school yet, but what might help is watching some small free courses about different topics to see what you want to get into. Like for example if one of the things that are interesting to you is programming, you can watch a video about algorithms or web development. But do what you wanna do, I’m not sure if this is good advice so good luck. 👍 Edit: And if you want to go deeper into like the top three choices you can go get better courses that go deeper into the topic.

My general tip of "having a theme" within one's application is closer to an advice rather than a rule. Just because I advise you to do one thing, doesn't mean another is completely wrong. There is always wriggle room! I think it'll do more harm than good to completely shift and change your application just because things don't align. You're proving your competency, leadership, and overall character in different ways and that's okay! It seems like you're doing incredible things outside of school so I wouldn't worry if I were you :) (just make sure they're not shallow activities that barely have impact!) Essays is a whole other beast to deal with but really use your creative imagination, you can make it whatever you want it to be. Just try not to come off as this "know it all" because we all certainly don't. Rooting for you!

When I say do more, I mean to put more time, focus, and resources with the select things you have already. Like I said, build vertically not horizontally. And yes you can email me! Send me your questions and we can hop on a zoom call if need be :)

I am already in senior year of High school . Will doing this help me? I played badminton until junior year now due to a shoulder injury i don't. But i do play the piano and do classical dance and i do paint write poems and short stories and also have joined a lot of clubs over my middle school and now in high school.

Middle School doesn't matter so forget about everything you did then. You gotta make your extracurriculars seem special or you're cooked. Did you get any stories/poems published? Did you receive any award for your paintings, or decide to sell them? Did you play the piano at a recital or get any accolades? If not, then lie and say you did lol. They're too lazy and it's too difficult to check.

My english marks aren't very good and my communication skills aren't very good. I have time to improve it but I think if this continues it can limit many of my opportunities, not just in university applications. Last semester in my English class I found myself relying on ai, chatgpt and googling for my essays instead of being creative myself, coming up with my own ideas and just writing myself. I also found myself during presentations constantly needing to look at a script I made while others only need points and some can present without any points to look at. Do you have any ideas to help me to improve my writing skills and presentational skills, because I have no idea how other people are so good.

I feel like you're using the internet / ai / scripts as a crutch rather than it being a tool to assist you. I highly recommend going cold turkey and completely eliminate them from your work flow so you can build your creativity "muscles" from the ground up. The challenge you deal with is something that many students face and it's based from bad habits. But like all things, it's solvable. You got this. Wishing you luck!

Consistency. I want to be a lawyer when I grow up, so for that reason I have my resume oriented toward that ambition. I am a 2 time debate district champion, an attorney on mock trial, student council, model UN and a few other non lawyer related clubs. What you said that stood out to me was differentiation, and I just thought of a college essay idea that I feel would differentiate me, entertain those reading the essay, whilst showcasing my talents. What if I show the setting of a court case, where I am the defendant and acted as the lawyer as well in the trial? I feel like telling a story about that would be a banger story, especially if I win the case. But then again I think it would be disrespectful to break the law for a college essay. But another idea, what if I tell the story of a court case that I’m in and I phrase it like a real case, but at the end I can say it was a mock trial case, which also makes the essay entertaining while showcasing my skills to be a lawyer. What do you think? Also what clubs do you think I can start which shows “lawyer” on my resume?

I saw this idea on Reddit a couple weeks ago. I would advise against it. Admissions officers want to know who you are as a person, they don’t care as much about your ambitions bc those can always change. You’ll have plenty of times to talk about your passion for law. Also keep in mind that this is undergrad admissions, and not every admissions officer is going to know much about law in general. Your common app essay should showcase your personality

I am currently 15, and getting into the Ivys has always seemed like a bridge too far to cross, I always find myself wondering what I should do in high school to make an impact and right now I am stuck between many small extracurricular to boost my application and one big passion project with a minimal chance of success, I always am unsure on what I should do. Whether I should commit to my passion project and maybe be late to some of the other extracurriculars or should I go heat first into my passion project, love the content and any input would help.

Go for the passion project, the amount of extracurriculars don’t matter as long as you do something that truly reflects who you are as a person and demonstrates determination.

Consistency!!!! Do extracurriculars have to be a club or can it just be something I do for fun? Do they have to play a role in the community, since I write programs just for the fun of if. Lastly, how can I show the impact they made in a community?
@sh2nu1ee
@sh2nu1ee 26 күн бұрын
Extracurriculars can be literally anything other than the things you do for your grade. Clubs, internships, jobs, volunteering, hobbies, etc. If you decide to deploy your program for a community need, you can track the number of total people who use it, the daily amount of people who use it, etc.

Consistency. How do you start a personal project? How can you make it meaningful?
@sh2nu1ee
@sh2nu1ee 27 күн бұрын
it all depends on what type of project you want to start, if it's art, you start creating an art portfolio, or an art instagram page, or an art community on discord, maybe even go as far as creating an ai that can create it's own drawings, it's pretty much endless!
