Here's a Britcom series from the '70s-'90s I really like. It depicts the 'adventures' of 3 long retired men in the (I think) Yorkshire Downs of England. One is from the lower class and always seeking the opportunity. The second is middle class and risk averse; you wonder about his background. The third is upper class and stuffy, even to these guys. But they get into these scenes; I love the matrix of experience, light hearted banter, and location. I remember first seeing one of these episodes with Dad in the '80s on the then-new cable TV. He reminisced about his own English experience, and defended fiercely the slow moving retirement of these guys, the like of which he envisaged but never got to see. So I find some comfort in this series, now, 2 years retired.

I don't think compo's unwanted cuddles and more would go down very well today on TV, but as he always get a tin tray over his head, or a sweeping brush in the stomach, or generally hit with Noras handbag, in a comedic way I guess it seems OK to laugh at, as Nora is is control, as much as Compo likes to think otherwise!... American militant feminists would have a field day, I think germaine greer may see it differently like me though as Nora always has the upper hand... Or is my nostalgic fondness for the show, making me make excuses to myself!!! Yes I admit Compo and Nora type story lines haven't been seen or exceptable on TV for a long time, have had they're day, so maybe that nostalgia is clouding my view. I still love the show though, I'm sure what that says about me, I'm female and 34‼️

Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
