From what I have heard, these old signals still stand, but have been disconnected, and functionally replaced by crossbucks, flashers, and gates.

That's correct. Supposedly they can be activated for "ceremonial purposes" whatever that means. Nothing's ever come of that.

The reason why they're not in a museum is for the fact that all the locals gathered together in protest after the city threatened to get rid of the signals, so...they kept them, but added newer signals to make it safer. So that was their compromise that no one liked too much saying it doesn't even work.
