Upland Pipeline Skatepark Last sessions Unedited Raw footage... Mostly the OC Crew, Marty Jimenez AKA Jinx, Myself, Paul Schmitt, Mike Folmer, ET, Chicken, Chuck Hults, a bit of Riky Barnes and Mike Lohrmann, with some Eric Nash, Steve Alba, Micke Alba and even a short appearance by Mark "Gator" Rogowski/Anthony
During the last few months of the Pipeline, the fences were down, the sessions were small and fun.. This video is about an hour and contains first some footage in the 15 foot bowl, then the Pipe, some Combi all from the same day and then another session with Pipe and Combi footage..

Jim, this footage is killer and absolutely priceless! I can't tell you how many Pipeline pics from Thrasher and Freestylin' I had on my wall as a kid. It was my Mecca and I was determined to get there. In '88 we took a family vacation from Virginia to LA, and amazingly my old man actually let me take my board on the plane. I was 12. Anyway, somehow I managed to talk my folks into driving out to Upland about midway through our trip. I think it was a Tues or Weds in July. Anyway, we drove all the way out there and it was CLOSED!!! I was literally crushed. I might have even cried a little. But at least I got to see the park with my own eyes and my mom took a picture of me in front of that cool sign they had made out of a smaller concrete pipe. Even though I didn't get to ride it, I will NEVER forget that trip. You local guys were my heroes. (and still are!) Man, somebody needs to invent a time machine badly. Cheers from VA.

VirtualWoodshed my brother and I went there on trip with my parents too but my Dad would only let brother skate because I was only 8 years old and he was 14, Great memories

I was a member from the day it opened in 77. What a great blast from the past. What an evolution of boards, trucks, and wheels until they closed in 89. This brings back great memories. It has always been the best park ever designed. Thanks so much for posting this.

As someone surrounded by popsicles when i start sk8n in 2000, this footage is crucial to me now. I was in a Chicagoland suburb, and surprisingly NOBODY sk8ed, so i didn't see footy of older heads til youtube came along. I read old books from the 70s & 80s, but once the old videos became available (H-Street, Planet Earth, Powell-Peralta, etc) i became obsessed w/ just HOW tricks came along and changed the whole game. Footage like this for an elder millennial like me nutures the soul.

I was privileged to be skating from 87 to 04. Those late 80s to early 90s were so progressive and experimental, and so fast. Every 3 months things moved on and changed. Tricks, style, fashion shoes. To the finished article by 94.

The Upland Combi defined pro skating to me in the 80s. So rad. Best lines. Awesome vid thanks. I thought Folmer was Salba having a mellow day in the first sesh!!!

Great video. We first skated the park right when it opened. We were already familiar with all the spots there, L-Pool, Baldy Pipe, double light pool on Euclid etc. Skated up until just after they added the combi-pool. We even contributed 150.00 to help fund. Drove up from San Pedro about 3-4 times a week with our crew, knew all the locals and skated with them at local spots as well.

I lived in Visalia (central valley) only skatepark we had was at the YMCA. Half pipe, mini ramp and a launch ramp....that's why Knox was so good at curbs! lol

Thanks dude from Tennessee! Never skated in California but had some good parks in Alabama we would skate.We made our own 1/2 pipes and there were a few of us that could truly skate vert fairly well! Thanks again for footage! Brings back memories from the magazines.

This is rad video, man. My hometown park...still remember skating there after school from like 84-88 and then going across the street to the apartments where my best friend Tony lived. Best days of my childhood. Then I got a driver's license and never skated there again. But I did drive by with my boy Ryan the day they tore it down and filled in the pools. No park ANYWHERE had a pool as sick as the Combi. The only park with its own BMX track on-site, too!

Roc Bottom Vans built a replica of the Combi at their skatepark in Orange, California. There's tons of videos on KZbin of the legends skating it every year.

Seeing those fishtail boards bring me back to my first excitement from skateboarding- a Nash fishtail I rode through sun, rain, snow, mud, grass here in Maryland- it was an appendix of my body- then double kick boards came out and it was on.💪 Your crew was killing it btw- 👌 we had nothing like that here on the East Coast in the early 90s

It's amazing how we view things through nostalgia. I loved Pipeline too but now it's pretty apparent how dated the park was by modern standards. The dimensions, the 15' and pipe bowl hips, concrete lips instead of coping, lumpy surfaces. The combi coping was absolute crap. And street skating would've killed Pipeline soon enough anyway.
