I like the way you teach guitar so far. You teach the way I do my nephews or anyone else. That is, you go very slow & show the student over & over & over with great patients. I also like the way you have the screen split up into 3 sections. I could go on with other details…

Brandon, I just took a little break from deep river blues. Fingers are starting to break open lol. Thought I’d surf some of your other tutorials. This one is 24mins long and I noticed right off the hop you’re explaining every little detail, that is awesome man, for guys like me who have to watch 1 measure in super slow motion for a couple days haha this is extremely helpful. I really do appreciate you taking the time to do this for others. To allow us to find such happiness in learning these awesome songs. You’re a magnificent player and an awesome teacher. As always thanks kindly my friend -

Hey mate, this just popped up in the feed. Even though it's well past bedtime I have stayed awake long enough to wack it on the playlist with Leo performing it and a short one with John Fahey showing a bit on how to play it. This video is pinned on the fridge and will definitely get me to pick up the guitar after 10 years of not playing. Thanks mate. Only thing left to do is post this message and smash the sub button.

Hey, I came over from Paul Davids. Saw him play "Last Steam Engine Train" but he only gives you the tabs if you become a patreon for 5$/month. And he doesn't explain how to play it. Then i searched and found your video. Awesome! Just what I need! You're doing a great job! How come Paul has close to a million subscribers and you have only 4.000?!?!?! Just because his videos are more stylish? That being said, I would pay some money to become a patreon on your page, if you had one. Good stuff, keep it up!

This guy really takes the time to explain each measure in a well thought out and detailed fashion. I wish that fingerpicking blues teachers also take the time to talk more about right hand technique like hand position, fingering and nail versus flesh string touching for tone. After seeing this guy's teaching skills......I am going on his website to see if there are any lessons I want to purchase.

Nice and slow, tab kept up, repeated many times....i think it’s the best lesson I’ve ever seen on KZbin! Exactly the best way to learn fingerpicking, start from the top with one note and add slowly from there

It appears that your tab is representing an open D string in section 3 that should be an E (2nd fret D string). Otherwise this is a superb vid as is the rest of your tutorials. Well done!

@Aluminata6 жыл бұрын
When you play them fast - particularly 3 and 4 - you seem to manage to slip in an e on the d string which is not shown in the slow demonstration.
@BrandonJohnsonGuitar6 жыл бұрын
You're probably right. I tried to tab out all the notes but maybe I missed one when I play it fast.
@theowlstv5 жыл бұрын
isnt it John Fahey?
@chrishartz23973 жыл бұрын
This is a great song and not that hard to learn if you play it slower. Most people that play this song play it TOO fast...after all steam engines are slow leviathans...not bullet trains. If you have trouble making the bend in the 1st measure, 5 fret, play all the base notes on the open E string...then you can really bend that G note...hold it..then release it. Later on you can throw in the E note on the 5 th string...the idea isn’t to how Kottke played it (too fast), but to learn to play it how you like it...making it your song..

New to the guitar this is my goal. How long will it take ?
@BrandonJohnsonGuitar5 жыл бұрын
Ok... awesome that you are wanting to learn guitar! Keep at it and you will improve gradually with practice and persistence. That being said, this is not a beginner tune. I don't want to discourage you from trying to learn it but I can't give you an honest answer as to how long it will take you to learn. I would start with some beginner lessons on fingerpicking, alternating bass and building hand strength as a starting point and then maybe come back to this one. But hey, if you want to feel the burn and learn it then go for it! Maybe you are the next guitar prodigy and this is a piece of cake! :D Good Luck, Brandon

KZbin would pay for views so why do we have to pay for the full lesson, greedy
@AlexRodriguez-nf9vr3 жыл бұрын
Because his time is worth more than the minimal compensation youtube provides. If you want free go somewhere else on youtube that doesn't explain it nearly as in depth. Just because you don't understand how much effort and time it takes to do videos like this, doesn't mean hes greedy.
