It was so sad when as an adult, my parents moved out of my childhood home. Thankfully they moved into a wonderful house. After a short time, I realized, the house doesn't really matter - it's the people inside that matter.

No, Linda is married but rarely mentions her husband so people do get confused, as it sounds like Stuart is her husband. In Virginia, we never say “my house”, “my yard”, “my Thanksgiving table” or “where I raised my children”. Maybe it is a regional way of speaking. I prefer to say “we”. Wishing Linda and her family a great Second Half.

Linda, I just discovered your channel about two weeks ago and became an immediate friend and fan. I truly know how hard this is for you. My husband and I both retired in 2020 and were so excited to begin the last phase of our life. We had been together 43 years. Sadly and so unexpectedly, my husband was diagnosed with metastatic cancer and was gone within 10 days of our retirement. To say I was devastated is an understatement. I am now living in a world I never imagined. It has been 2 1/2 years and last July I sold our home and moved to the mountains of North Georgia. Our home was way too large for just myself and I have had moments of regret but I always remember that God is in control and has led me to a place where I have so many caring people around me….people that were strangers until last July. I so look forward to your new garden and going on this journey with you. I too have acquired a rather dull landscape and am looking for ideas and inspiration to create my own little paradise! Your new cottage is gorgeous and it will be exciting to watch you place your magic touch on so many area. God bless! Robin

After 49 years in my "old house", I downsized 8 years ago. It was built in 1966. My "new house" was built in 1998, 32 years newer. My daughter had been nagging me to downsize to a newer, smaller house, and it was a great decision. So many of the amenities in this house are exactly what I needed and I am amazed at how well my furniture and rugs fit into this house. I have painted every room and replaced every faucet and light fixture. Both houses had xeriscape landscaping. What an adventure!

I have found myself saying to several friends lately “when one door closes, another door opens“. I think this applies to you at this moment... we all have wonderful memories and you will carry those memories of your beloved home to your new location, and life will go on and the adventure will continue... I can say from experience that as you age you will appreciate one level living very much! And having a fresh slate on which to draw your first year of beauty will be an adventure... I have been following you for sometime now because our weather in Arkansas can be similar to your weather there. You have given me confidence to go to the garden and have an adventure... Stewart is right about starting a garden with real wisdom and experience you will not have to make the mistakes you made 3040 years ago... thank you for your inspiration and I am so excited about your new house I almost feel like I’m living it with you enjoy my friend enjoy‼️🎶🏘

I’m a 30 something gay man and my husband and I love your channel. I’ve been following along for a few years now. I love the thrifting/curated look. I also am very passionate about helping native bumble bees and other pollinators, so I appreciate the way you garden in a more organic way. Thank you for leaving the leaves in the garden beds! As far as your move, I’m excited for you. My home is around the corner from my childhood home which I drive by daily. It was definitely hard when my parents sold that house after 30 years. I appreciate the smaller rooms of your old house and felt inspired by it since I have a 1960 colonial (In upstate NY) with many smaller rooms. You’ve helped me with ideas on how to maximize my home and fall in love with it. Thank you!!! I can’t wait to see the new garden, and love the design process with John! And yay Oak trees! I’ve been reading Dr. Doug Tallamy’s research on Oak trees and they are just amazing!

Especially the home where your children grew up! So many memories! But change is such a part of living, isn't it? Like you said in this last walkabout...your heart and common sense will lead you where you need to go and when the time is right. I will add to the beautiful comments already posted. I have commented many times before, Linda, and no I do not think you are crazy. Life goes on and if we do not go with it, much of it will pass you by. After 40 yrs in my pre civil war farmhouse, we built our New England saltbox and relocated just 3 miles away. When it was time for us to walk out of the place that had seen me birth babies, teach those babes the rules of life and kindness, I did it with a tear in my eye and a song in my heart. I thanked God for the opportunities that allowed me to have foster children, Fresh Air Fund children, birth all kinds of animals, host wedding showers and teach my grandchildren how to swim. While that house is no longer my dwelling place, my memories remain. God Bless you both on this new journey.

Hi Linda! I moved from my beautiful Colorado home back to Kansas about a year ago. I am a busy mother of four, so gardening has become an escape from everyday chaos. Shutting the doors to that home, the memories and the garden was like the loss of a dear friend. We bought a beautiful piece of property north of Wichita KS in order to build our dream home, which required starting from scratch! It has taken a lot more courage than I thought, but I have been encouraged by your vision for your new place. My husband and I have fixed and flipped houses throughout Colorado for quite a number of years, so we have learned the art of seeing things for what they can be instead of what they are. God Bless you in your new endeavor. I will be keeping an eye on your plans and maybe use some of them for our new place.

You kept me positive as I spent more and more time in my garden. Since Covid has "relaxed" I have continued my garden journey and there is no turning back!! You have taught me both joy and excitement in thrifting, I find pleasure in cutting and forcing branches and making arrangements in the house, and I am adding boxwood to my garden! Thank you for all the wonderful tips for gardening, decorating and styling the garden. Because of you I am a better, but most importantly a more joyful and excited gardener. Thank you for enriching my life and I look forward to seeing your new garden develop. We have never met, yet you feel like one of my best garden friends. Blessings on your new journey. My dream was to live in a historical home so upon finding a brick bungalow in Wilmington, NC near my brother… decision was made! I will forever carry the memories of my home in Ga. but my life is wonderful in my historical bungalow. There are always many trade-offs, but moving opened a new chapter in my life. I started watching a few months before you sold the storybook house and was delighted to discover your channel. It seemed sad, but then you seemed to quickly rebound, in true Linda style. I just love following you and watching your channel. And I love your style and how you stay young.

I, for one, am excited to watch you take on the changes. Loved the prior house, but am excited to see your approach to a blank slate outside and an open floor plan on the inside. Go Linda, Hubs, and Stewart!

While I’ll miss your old garden, I’m excited for the new garden to begin. I live on five+ acres that is bare ground (plus a whole mess of weeds). So I’m taking your advice to heart.

Hi Linda. Rest assure you’ve made the best decision! I’m happy to go on this new journey & chapter with you to the story book home. The truth about gardening is you can do it anywhere… replacing old with the new will be a testament to that. Can’t wait to see the new reveal!

I can hear the sadness in your voice but that’s evidence of a rich and fulfilled life lived in your house. You and hubs are moving at the right time and soon your thoughts will be so full of plans for your new storybook cottage the emotions will diminish. I look forward to seeing you establish your new garden and where you will relocate your precious shrubs and garden ornaments. I love the bricks and their stories. Don’t look back. Xxx 🇬🇧

You know, I love this garden. I remember when I found your channel a few years ago. I was so captivated first by the topiaries and then by your gardening style. It will be exciting to see what you do with a blank space. But this garden will always be a favorite.

My house sold faster than I figured it would...I never really took much from my landscape, as most do only well in the shade; something I will not have much of at my new place. Thanks for this last look, Stewart & Linda.

Linda and Stewart, I waited until today to watch this because I knew it would be bittersweet. In early 2020, I was struggling with and feeling defeated by a large garden that I inherited when I purchased a new home. Then I found YOU. "Don't let your plants boss you around!" Ha! Little did I know at that time, how much more I would learn from you and be inspired by you...way beyond the borders of the garden. I have loved and looked forward to these Wednesday Walk-Abouts. They have picked me up and made me smile on some blue days. Always something to look forward to. I'm SO HAPPY and EXCITED for your new adventure and I will be following along enthusiastically!! Please know what a force for good your efforts are. WELL DONE. All the best, Ellen

Hello Linda, from Toronto Canada. I've been watching your videos and enjoying them. We live in a 1950's home now for 20 years and as we age and think of downsizing we are considering a garden suite in our ample yard. My joy in doing that would mean I could keep my garden, friends and family close and stay in my neighborhood of Willowdale. You inspire me watching you and Stuart on your walk abouts. Blessings to you and your family as you start your journey in your new house. Looking forward to following you.

Linda, good luck in your new home and I can’t wait to see what you will do with your new garden spaces. I have moved many times in my lifetime across Country and States. You always leave part of yourself behind and replace it with new ones in your new home. This year I will be volunteering my garden for our town’s garden tour.

I have been watching you on and off for several years for your garden content. Your spring garden was an inspiration because I love that you have been able to marry a garden that reseeds with a garden that still has some order to it. Having "just" moved 5 years ago and been through the same process of trying to restart a new garden (although without the benefit of a blank slate) I know that you will find your new success. It may just be different than your old success, and you know as well as anyone that gardens take time to mature. So glad you are taking us along on the journey! Best wishes!

Well, sure you can do it again! I'm in a new (old) house too and your tales of starting from scratch and teaching yourself have been an enormous encouragement to me. Your news came on the same day I finally had your beautiful book in hand, so the surprise was compounded by the coincidence for me. Congratulations! I can't wait to watch and learn as you transform your new place into a beautiful garden that rivals your fairy tale garden. Your attitude and energy are an inspiration to me!

I've always loved gardening, but when I retired in 2010 the first thing I did was take the Master Gardener classes. I live in north Texas about 2 hours from Oklahoma City. I am a 6th generation to live on my property. I have been watching you for around 5 years and enjoyed it all,and look forward to your new challenge. What fun!

Linda, I too have moved recently, October 2022. We moved from Gretna, LA (zone 9b) to Foley, AL ( zone 8b.) I took many of my plants in my garden at the old house with me to the new construction house. They are still in pots at my new house until I get my gardens prepared. I have nothing but hard clay soil & grass. I’m doing no-dig gardens for both flowers & vegetables/fruit because the soil is so poor. I’ll be following you & Stewart closely. I believe your vision for your new garden will be amazing. So you have so many people behind you and a great support system.
