Ever since the incident at the Breitscheidplatz Christmas market in Berlin eight years ago, events like this have strict security concepts. These include concrete bollards to prevent vehicles from entering the Christmas markets. New information about the attack on Friday has revealed that the perpetrator probably used an alleyway that was designed to allow ambulances into the square in the event of an emergency. The entrance to this alley was supposed to be blocked by a police car. However apparently the car was in the wrong place at the time of the crime. 😞
@sina38397 күн бұрын
While it is bad that the security failed, the true problem is really that all of this is needed in the first place. But nobody wants to talk about that, that's why they focus on the failed security that hasn't been needed at all 10 years ago.

@@sina3839Security concepts date back to the early Middle Ages. We have knowledge gaps due to the Dreißigjährige Krieg but focusing on the past 100 years, you can already see how security has risen and fallen due to internal and external threats. The "Luftschutzbund" was building bunkers for civilians against air raids during the 2. World War. In 1955 the Nato and Germany trained forces due to the problematic relationship with the "Warschauer Pakt". The Cold War lead to building a lot of safe spaces for civilians in case of an attack With 1968 and the "Notstandsgesetze" every German is in the picture. A highly discussed plan for internal and external danger. Another big part of Germany's history lead to the GSG9 being established and trained in the 70s against RAF attacks. We now had another special unit. If you are old enough you might also remember the "Broschüre für den Zivilschutz" in case of internal/external ABC attacks and how you should deal with it as a civilian. Did you really forget all that? It's just a few examples that I can name right now without being nitpicking. Even 9/11 led to other security standards across the world. Especially in NA and Europe. Do you remember traveling and boarding a plane in the 80s or 90s? Barely any security measurements. In general places like airports or train stations weren't secured very well. I'm positive that you at least remember how everything changed after 9/11 and it didn't even occur on our continent. All the ongoing preparations due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. This is a whole different topic but you do feel how the military is being prioritized, how the BND and other institutions work non-stop and how we are warned about threats of power outages, no internet connection or similar threats. Just think about the Chinese ship that ripped apart 2 cables going from Germany to Scandinavia (?). Not sure where they actually led but I think it's the northern European nations.

10:45 At events like this, you always need access for emergency vehicles. That's exactly how this guy got in. You don't want security to be so tight that visitors die of heart attacks, alcohol overdoses or stupid injuries because the ambulance couldn't get there on time. But in this case, it seems security at that emergency access entry failed.
@jancleve96357 күн бұрын
Exactly, but the security didn´t failed. We can´t be prepared against something like this. The wonderful, legostyle concrete Bricks arn´t roadblocks. These things are just the heaviest stones we found commercially available, they were designed for noisecancelling walls near the autobahn. These are security theater to make the guest FEEL safer... If we really installed military grade dragonstheeth that can actually stop a truck, the perimeter of any event would look like the green zone in Kabul, back in the day. And at that point I have the access problem again. Some citys installed raido controlled steelrods that can slide into the ground, these are an effectiv roadblock. We should invest more in this kind of security gear but all we get is campaigning for the febuar election and dumb overreactions from politicians and media alike.
@Psi-Storm7 күн бұрын
But you could just park the ambulance right in the gap for example, or a police car that can just make way, in an emergency. Or you install these electric barriers that fully lower into the ground. Keeping the access lane just open was neglect.

My father - who was himself a neurologist and psychiatrist - used to say that some people start to study psychiatry because they think there is something wrong with themselves, but often they later repress that feeling. 7:33 A grand uncle of my mother worked between WW I and WW II as master brewer in Belgium, first in the brewery belonging to the family of his wife. He left them and took a job at their competitor after his brothers-in-law started to burn money by renting trains for weekend trips to Amsterdam. The brewery went bankrupt soon after. 11:38 The attacker 8 years ago at Breitscheidplatz in Berlin was an Islamist. He killed a truck driver (I think from Poland) to steal his truck and drove it through the Christmas market. He could flee afterwards, but was shot a few days later in Italy. In July of the same day another attack with a truck had happened at Bastille day in Nice. Since then new security measures at Christmas markets and other events were introduced, like concrete blocks and bollards to cordon the place off. The attacker in Magdeburg used a rented SUV to enter by an unblocked emergency route (which entry the organizers thought safe enough because it was separated from the road by a tram station situated before it). At other Christmas markets they placed fire trucks in the emergency access lanes afterwards as a provisional measure.

everyone is blaming the AfD so that they themselves don't come into focus. he came to Germany in 2006 in 2013 he threatened the medical association with something like the attack in Boston because of disagreements about his training, which is why he was convicted by the Rostock court. in 2016 he was granted asylum in Germany he was a refugee activist, campaigned for women's and LGBTQ rights in the Arab world, especially Saudi Arabia. in a 2019 interview with the BBC he described himself as a leftist and criticized that right-wingers do more for women's rights than left-wingers, with reference to Islam in 2023 he contacted the Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser via Twitter and email and threatened consequences. The police sent him a threat warning by post. along the lines of "nothing has happened yet, but don't carry on like this". the authorities classified him as "not dangerous". On Twitter, he started a survey among his 40,000 followers asking whether they would be angry with him if he randomly killed 20 Germans. This was passed on to the authorities, but no one felt responsible. Saudi Arabia often warned the German authorities about him and demanded his extradition. The authorities refused. Over the years, he contacted all people who were in any way critical of Islam. He shared a handful of AfD content, but also sought contact with well-known German ex-Muslims such as Ali Utlu and Hamed Abdel Samad. And that is the only connection to the AfD.

I told them he had made problems before and had to leave the apartment he rented with his partner before and she let him move out with the police. Even then it seemed boring for the police. There WAS severe systemic failures regarding the attacker. The security agencies had received numerous reports. And it's not like his Twitter was subtle or anything. There's also the matter of security at the market. He exploited an access way for emergency services and deliveries, as every other approach was secured with concrete barriers. And while that is necessary, there is plenty of ways to secure THAT while still ensuring quick access.

Pistol shots cannot reliably stop a knife attacker as quickly as the attacker can mortally injure someone. The police officer waits for his colleagues to make the arrest and does not attempt to go it alone. There were multiple terrorist attacks in germany in recent years by such people, maybe the most prominent one was in Hanau. Further more, there were even such attacks by radicalized anti-immigrants who had immigration backgrounds themself like the shooter from Munich with iranian background. Some germans tend to admire radicalized anti-immigrationists if they are Immigrants themself. A reason for that might be they like the radical racist stuff and think there is no moral problem because it is an immigrant who says it. 12 years ago people like Akif Pirinci were even presented in mainstream media despite being absolutly bonkers.

I'm moving to Germany in July 2025. I'm just 19, not belong to Islam (just to be clear), going to study veterinary medicine... I hope this doesn't cause any trouble to me..... I've always hated this kind of people who do nothing good but only cause disasters. I'd love to be a part of the german community. I already have many german friends. But still a bit concerned for myself... I'm feeling a little stressed and a lot bad for the victims.

Meine Gedanken sind vor allem bei den Angehörigen aber auch bei jedem Anderen, der sich in einer schweren oder traurigen Zeit befindet! Merry Christmas Ryan. Most people just read the headlines. In a few weeks they just remember about the words 'saudi', 'attack', 'christmas market' and 'car'. In the ends it helps the AfD for the upcoming election, the attacker, an AfD -Fanboys made them an early Christmas gift.

@benistcreative7 күн бұрын

@Exodon20207 күн бұрын
His actual motivation won't matter in the election but rather how it is framed. AfD will double down on the fact he's a foreigner and plenty of people will mimic that sentiment regardless of him carrying out that attack in support of the far right. "The worse people are faring in Germany, the better for us" - Christian Lüth, former AfD Press Secretary.
@josefsad15027 күн бұрын
He is obviously crazy, but not stupid. He knows how they will frame it, that's probably the motive. The Afd is able to even downplay real holocaust denier in their party, so this is a very easy task. The motive remains the same as for islamic terrorists. They also want the Afd and other right wing parties in Europe to take over, because it will destabilize the EU.
@onlyfoes6 күн бұрын
But why then a Christmas market and not a place of migrants or Muslim to attack if he did it for the far right? It just makes no sense.

@onlyfoes He is obviously crazy but also a doctor and kind of smart. It would have damaged the Afd, if he did what he did to muslim immigrants. Let's be honest, a lot of people wouldn't even care and it would have been all forgotten in a week or two. I don't live in Germany, but it seems that he got what he wanted.

Let me summarize, my opinion after all, not finished yet, information. There was a security leck in the emergency way. This doctor was afraid of immigrant islamists could become risky for him. He was not well integrated, even he lived long in Germany, otherwise he would have understood German politics better. Just my opinion. When people feel no way out, especially introverted people what he was, they can become very aggressive. BUT, it could have been foreseen because of that what he posted in internet. The only what he got was a "Gefährderansprache" what means the police talked to him about legal consequences when he is doing something wrong. Integration is a difficult thing. The US struggles with this as well and other countries too. I only feel helpless about the victims. But AFD is not an alternativ in Germany. Open Integration is the best way from my opinion and before careful acception of immigrants.
