I've been using the blue point 4oz for quite a long time as my small pin/gunsmith hammer. This looks like a great alternative. Thanks Doc, you always put out great reviews! BTW, the maxpedition reviews you did a few years ago have absolutely made being an aircraft mechanic so much easier for line maintenance and putting together travel kits. I sincerely appreciate the reviews you have put out over the years and look forward to more!

the little Anex is very nice too and can be found cheaper rebranded by Tamiya in the US and elsewhere. various heads are sold with it to adapt it best to your hammerin' needs. another great little one is the smallest of the British-made Thor with hide faces for delicate, non-marring work. 😏👌

I have owned the Blue Point hammer since 1986. Used to use it at the dealership to peen over the door lock covers when we rekeyed them. I now use it for pins on my rifles. Great hammer. A friend of my bought the orange hammer off of Amazon. After about a year, the hammer started to split down the seam. Also, when it was new it had an awful off gas smell. Just like HF used to smell like years ago.

Luckily the hammer I got has no odor. We'll see how it holds up.

It’s interesting, because I also have the same 8 oz Snap-on® dead blow hammer - and really wish they made a 4 oz version with a smaller handle.

Some dead blow hammer manufacturers will list the weight as the complete hammer, some just the head weight and some just the weight of the shot. There are calibrated hammers that are based on impact energy.

No metal face, but my favorite hammer for the machine shop is the Trusty Cook 8oz slim-line dead blow. USA Made to boot! Actually, I also have the... 12oz? I think... Snap On soft face dead blow, but these things get beat up pretty harsh and it is dumb to spend that kind of money on a soft face that is often hitting sharp metal. $23 for the Trusty Cook is the right way to go.

Hello again, Catus Maximus and Tiny Thank you for another Great Video 👍 The best hammer I bought came from Harbor Freight. I paid about $3.00 for it. It measures 6"x 3". I wish, I could tell you how much it weighs. But that info is gone. It's just a small ball peen hammer. When I first saw it, I laughed. And asked myself what can you fix with that. Fifteen plus years later, I can, I say I fixed many things with that hammer. It is extremely small to get into tight places, where your bigger hammers won't. Stay safe and warm. Again thank you 👌

I wonder if snapon might be measuring the weight of the shot inside of hammer head. I noticed the heads always weigh more than what they specify with their hammers.

Can you do a video on a 10 or 12oz framing hammer? I know that Wiha has a 10 oz hammer, but not going to spend $50 on a small hammer when there are 16 oz hammers that cost a 1/3 of what Wiha charges.

what are those pads you keep placing the hammers on? I assume they are to protect the metal impact surface from scratches?

I don't need it, but hear me out... Incidentally if you do a good amount of uni/power strut. Those engineer (the black one with the straight cross pein) hammers come in clutch with wedge anchor studs(the ones you pound directly into concrete, whatever your local name for them) You set your end anchors, bolt up the section of strut against the wall or whatever, then hammer drill the rest of the holes with it in place. regular hammer side to get the anchor started then the cross pein once it's down in the strut, no pin punch needed. Perfect geometry for that, and good all around smallish general hammer.

I like Jafco hammers. The military tend to use them so must be pretty indestructible. And I'm pretty sure they invented the fibre glass extrusion handle technology [Im reminded its Nupla]. I have 5 of them including fireman's spike that can get through doors
@kittytrail
@kittytrail 2 күн бұрын
nah, those handles are from Nupla and used by lots of brands including PB Swiss for their own deadblows with washers inside instead of steel balls. Jafco is probably the lowest bidder on those military contracts but still good hammers. what can go wrong with a hammer made by a specialized company anyway? 😋👍
@blacklisted4885
@blacklisted4885 2 күн бұрын
 @kittytrail Sorry that's what I meant Nupla invented the handles. My bad. I'd forgotten the name and just looked on one of mine. Jafco sells some that are full nupla (dead blows) and some with their own heads. I even have a handless deadblow striker thing. I trust their fibreglass handles more than Chinese ones. I think PB Swiss hammers are a bit luxury for my hammer requirements
@kittytrail
@kittytrail 2 күн бұрын
@@blacklisted4885 no problem, it even happens to the best of us. 😉 as for PB Swiss hammers, well, buy them cheap when they pop up fromm amazon to craigslist or in yard sales then, you won't regret it later. especially the Nupla-handled ones. 😏

I got a 3lb harbor freight and i have a 3 lb tsc yellow fiberglass hammer. And they feel nothing alike in weight. Thats my go-to weight for driving bearings or splitting kindling. Could of gone 4 to 5lb deadblow and still felt like im swinging something lighter. I don't like this playing games with what is a weight. My little 1+2 pound ball peen actually weigh and feel like thats what im swinging in the shop.

Do you use these tools or just collect them? None of those hammers look used at all, and it doesn't take much to mark up soft face or brass hammers.

Tool collector vs tool user. I've also heard him say, more than a few times, that he has tools looking for a use, rather than the 'normal person' thought of having a tool needed for a particular use. No tool reviews - because he doesn't use them in the real world. This guy is the definition of "influencer" - aka marketing rep. and info-mercial producer. I would dare him to "review" any tool that he doesn't have an affiliate link for.

@ from the looks of your display in the current video, it would seem it didn’t break your snappy addiction for long……or maybe it just looks cooler to stand up $150+ hammers than $70 hammers? Also, how come all your hammers are perfectly spotless? I mean damn near brand new looking? I’ve wiped down my snap on red dead blows at least once a week and they’re all pitted and stained and look well…..hammered.
