8:25 The reason why is because as it narrows it causes the stream of air to accelerate into the turbo. Inversely, imagine having a leaf blower with a 6 inch tube on it, verses a 3 inch. The 3inch is going to produce a more and more pressurized consistent, higher velocity flow. Pressure equals force divided by area. This is also why the GTI/R don't need a aftermarket intake until the EA888 produces over 400hp.

More pressure from a smaller passage (inlet elbow) before the turbo means the pressure differential needed to get air into the turbo must be greater. The compressor needs to create a low pressure region to draw air in and that is work that the turbine needs to put into the shaft. Requiring more work to accomplish drawing the same amount of air into the turbo is decreasing the overall system efficiency.

So is that means that the stock turbo inlet pipe is better before 400hp ???? Please answer me cause I just installed the unitronic one and I feel like I've lost boost and torque.... So I'm planning on reinstall the stock one 😭
@LastHumansGarage5 жыл бұрын
@@unenfantdesiles im not technical enough to answer that.. i know that when i went back to my stock one i immediately felt a big drop in power in midrange and had to reinstall it,.

@@unenfantdesiles Unless you are producing a preposterous amount of power the stoke pipe is totally fine.

Why are there always emergency vehicle sirens going off in your neighborhood? Good video, good tips, thanks for the video, I'm doing a ECS version which is probably close to the same. That PCV hose has me worried but it looks like it's doable.

I had an issue with my Unitronic install. The brace on the inlet didn’t line up exactly with the hole where the tork bit bolt went.
@LastHumansGarage4 жыл бұрын
its not dead on perfect, you are correct. but def close enough where i wasnt stripping anything. i bet you can very carefully drill out one of those pass thru holes a hair larger to solve it. can't remember the setup right now.

Thanks for posting this video. Did you ever run into any issues with the PCV hose connecting properly to the Turbo Inlet Pipe? For example, leaks or signs of oil on the outside of the area where the PCV hose connects to the TIP?

bro... 100% guaranteed as soon as you touch that thing. they all seep. I clean the oil mist off mine about once every 3 months. but i replaced it with the better one with push clips. i have a video somewhere.

Ultimate Racing has a nice DP w/ 400 cell cat and it's resonated. Quiet performance.

yup. i had ultimate racing downpipe on my MK6 GTI's. twice. the one with resonator. i had talked with them a few weeks ago about sending a downpipe. but we lost touch. ill check again, cuz its not the worst downpipe by any means.

I run it on my mk7 PP gti, along w/ Cobb cat back. I didn't like the droning around 80-90 mph and certain rpm's while driving around town. I'll be looking to either adda bigger muffler or an extra resonator.

Am I crazy or the fact that they have the same inlet and outlet size means they'll flow the same? I think the Unitronic part looks beefier because of all that material that makes the part ticker. If they have the same diameter holes then this upgrade doesn't make any sense.
@LastHumansGarage Жыл бұрын
yes, you are crazy. its not about inlet and outlet size. its about the flow between those 2 points. just like any other mod. all the small things add up.

LOL. Do you think Unitronic Motorsport has the VAG's R&D budget? Duh. The reason to have a large intake diameter that tapers to a smaller diameter is to increase - speed up - the air velocity to the intake manifold runners. Vout>Vin. This is the Bernoulli principle in practice. Grab a garden hose and turn on the tap. Pinch the other end and the water will shoot up. VAG saved the R&D money for you, but in turn, you burnt that money and bought a dumb design turbo Low Flow inlet pipe. Duh!!!
@LastHumansGarage5 жыл бұрын
the midrange power is noticeable. to each their own.
@LastHumansGarage5 жыл бұрын
and.. VW made the perfect inlet for a stock system. i'm sure it is perfectly matched. for a stage 2 system with twice the flow of stock, the VW design is less than optimal. Duh.
@7spower835 жыл бұрын
@@LastHumansGarage Obviously, you don't understand Bernoulli's principle.
