I just received mine and mounted it today. This is the only video I could find of the 3.0 that truly explains all of its functions. Even the instruction manual doesn’t. Great job sir and thank you very much. First RTT for me and it looks like I’m going to enjoy it. BTW the full size skycamp 3.0 does mount on the rhino rack backbone pioneer without buying additional hardware or any cutting or drilling. Just clamp the tent to the front and rear cross bar. Works a charm.

Many a night in my Skycamp 2.0 and these are some nice upgrades. Great to hear a company making subtle changes as a result of customer feedback. key changes for me: grommet, latching mechanism, rainfly and window awning pole placement. Not enough for me to upgrade after two years but definitely keeps the iKamper in the top two or three in the RTT category

We absolutely love it! Easy set up and take down. We left the pads that come with the iKamper inside and can keep our sleeping bags and down blankets inside and close it up. We each did get an Exped MegaMat to sleep on because the pads inside were not thick enough for us and we sleep so freaking well. We do take out the Exped mats before closing, they would probably fit if we took out the pads that came with the iKamper. We also love the dark fabric because it's pitch dark inside which makes for sleeping in great. We've camped in windy weather and have had no issues with it. I know there are RTT that have more room but for the two of us it's plenty of room. We highly recommend it. 🙂

China is capable of making some very high quality stuff. The difference in this niche market of roof top tents is that most of the other RTT companies are using contract manufacturing companies in China. iKamper is founded, owned and operated by a guy who loves car camping and took his family on a full-blown Chevy Chase style cross country trip across America. And they do their own engineering and manufacturing. It is clearly a labor of love, a passion project, a high-quality factory, and a dream small business for the founder.

I knew of iKamper’s Korean origins already before watching the video. My comment was pointing out that made in China does not automatically mean low quality. When I pop it open the sides of the rainfly get caught at the corner of the base the ladder is attached to. This would happen at 7:21 in this video. I am really like the idea of the Bed cover and have been looking at a ton of different ones but the deal is the camper on top i have yet to decide if i want to pull the trigger on that since i have a small pop up I referbed. It sleeps 5 but about the same as your bed size with a toilet and shower. 😉 I really like the idea of having the ability to just pull over any where and camp or on a long drive, stop and get a few hrs of sleep then keep moving on.. I do'nt get to do that alot but when i do. I guess my main question is, Why did you choose a hard cover vs say like a soft roll up cover or a like roll up garage door style ? Really would have loved to see you address the skylight some more. iKamper's decision not to use waterproof or covered zips means that when doing cold weather camping we get significant dripping condensation unless the windows are down. It looks like they have have decided to use waterproof zips with these update on the skylight, but I really can't tell. Without the rainfly the tent currently just drains water directly into the sleeping quarters which doesn't make a lot of sense for a canvas tent.
@LastLineOfDefense2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what you're asking really. The tent reviewed here has the rainfly on it, and no water will get in how you see it.
@Fozzymandius2 жыл бұрын
@@LastLineOfDefense I bought a skycamp mini last April and have camped with it in the mountains down to about 20 degrees and in the rain in the Olympics. The rain fly keeps the rain out, however the condensation from two people in the tent actually collected on the rain fly and went straight through the skylight zipper which is not waterproofed at all. Engineering a flap that doesn’t make it difficult to zip back up could be a bit of a pain, but I’ve been tempted to stitch one on and just fuss with it. When prepping the tent, iKamper’s instructions on waterproofing actually mention gently showering the canvas with water to help the canvas swell up, but that immediately had water streaming in through the skylight zipper (before I learned about the condensation issue). With the quality of canvas used you shouldn’t really need a rainfly on most nights to keep out some drizzle, but having condensation melting with the morning sun and coming into the tent was a bit of a rude awakening. Other than this the tent is great, though an inflatable mattress is also nice if you’re sleeping somewhere super cold.
