As a Floridian, Ron did this because Homeless Shelters had too many men just coming and going and never moving on with their lives due to the predatory courts. Now homeless shelters can actually help men rebuild their lives, without the fears of going to jail once you land a job and an apartment and the law catches up with you. Other than food stamps the welfare office did shit for me. Fortunately my stint was only 11 months before I found some other guys in similar situations and one of them knew a guy who needed to rent a house out. Knew a guy who was homeless, got an apartment and within 2 months DCF was serving him child support notices. So yeah, it was mainly to lighten the load on the homeless shelters and get men back on their feet without the fear of going to jail. Of course none of these women ever mentions that. I swear after high school women should do 13th grade where they live like men for a year. That would fix so many problems.

We had no kids and she had never worked during our marriage (she said it was too emotionally hard) despite finances being tough. I was calm until that point. I lost it. I told her I would spend every dollar I had to make sure she didn’t get a penny. She backed off.

Divorced 20 years ago in NC. I got custody of the 3 oldest children and the ex-wife got the youngest child. I still had to pay 40% of my net income to her as child support. The only reason she didn't get alimony was because she didn't even show up for court during the divorce. I asked why I had to pay since I had custody of 3 of the 4 kids and the judge's reply "do you want it to be 50%". Absolutely disgusting how us men are treated in divorce hearings. I filed for divorce due to her having many side kicks while we were married.

As a woman, I love this! No one, man or woman, should be forced to pay alimony for life. I only agree with alimony as a short term solution when the person who DIDN'T file for divorce was making less or a SAHP with little to no income and needs some time to adjust. I don't think it should last for more than 12 months. Edit: I also think alimony should be void if the person who would receive it is at fault. E.g. SAHW cheats on husband, which leads husband to file for divorce; therefore, SAHW is not eligible for alimony.

If you want the traditional wife, you should be willing to help her get established if you choose to file for divorce. And that is if there is no fault too. I don't think alimony should be given to a woman who was a SAHM that cheated on her husband which led him to file for divorce. Instead of looking at who benefits more from this, maybe look at it from a perspective of "does this make sense if it was applied equally to men and women?"

@@vijju8353 I don't think you fully read what I was saying. I stated I agreed with alimony for SAHP if the non SAHP filed for divorced. If the SAHP files, they shouldn't get alimony. I should have also added it should be no fault. If the SAHP is at fault, e.g. cheating, which leads the non SAHP to file, then the SAHP should not get alimony. Does that help explain this better for you?

Im so glad I waiting for this to happen before considering going through with divorce. 2 of my kids are not over 18 and one has 2 years to go but, this alimony buisness is long over due. Im done with my ex using our kids as shields to not helping for years with bills of the household. Me working 2 jobs for years 70 hours plus not seeing my kids grow up while she sat in ac in a nice house. Going on vacations with my kids as i slaved stuck in an hourly job. Now on top of that expecting me to carry her expenses after I moved on? That's madness. I hope this really helps the mindset of men not to be afraid to get married in Florida. Just make sure you check your womans relationship with her family. Chances are the way she is with her family will be the way she treats you.
