The interesting thing is how these two subjects as Oliver covers them intertwine. The testifier from Ohio talks about "just a face" can trigger reaction, and the same is quite true of Palestinians, who are condemned from birth if they live in Israeli lands. Their lives are not worth the same as an Israeli life, nor are they treated as such by most of the planet. Statistics don't matter...outrage does in our corporately censored media environment. They can't deny that they didn't condemn killing children. It would be like asking the government, "There have been various reports of children being eaten by their parents. Do you condemn eating your own children?" and the reply is, "We have read the reports. We've discussed them. We won't comment on them at this time." That is not a yes, and that would be the problem. There's no plausible deniability in that situation because there is only one correct answer, and skirting it doesn't remove the accountability of not condemning the heinous act when doing that or not doing that are the only two options.

It took over a year for Last Week Tonight to be able to release this episode. This episode was describing the conflict less than a couple weeks after it happened. It's unbelievable how much the narrative has changed since then. Back then, it was a big deal to strike apartment buildings and to displace people from their homes. Back then, it wasn't normal for people to be living in tents. Back then, all the hospitals were still up and running, as opposed to now, which is that every single one of them has been bombed and heavily sieged. Back then when you saw footage of Gaza there were still buildings standing now the entire region has been raised. Back then, it was shocking that the United States was not supporting human rights, and we were still questioning whether the US would criticize Israel for this genocide. Back then, the hypocrisy between the US response to Ukraine versus the US response to Gaza was not apparent yet. It's unbelievable how much has changed, are we going to keep letting it change?

Stand your ground laws don't exist for situations where they can save you life, because that's the point of self defense. They exist to justify violence in scenarios where you could avoid killing but do it anyway
