He does remember, the first time he goes out of the room after that conversation he's humming the first song that he sang as a kid on stage, he doesn't talk about it because he's back to being himself and lazlo is not his father just took care of a friend. Besides that yeah, he was turning out to be interesting and a cool person, which is the opposite of what an energy vampire needs to be to survive.
