They didn't leave much behind there, a couple pieces of furniture, an empty bottle of booze (necessary for the move of course) and Jr's basketball hoop 'cause he outgrew it. Nice colors of stained glass in that window over the door. Thanks for the midweek tour Paul! 🤠👍 🇺🇸

That singer sewing machine should be saved. They are worth a bit and can be made to run again. Modern day quilters still use them because they work so well.

A really nice mid-week surprise, thanks Paul. That faux-marble panelling is really interesting, I’ve seen similar panels in green, mainly in renovated bathrooms. I just looked it up, and found the following advertisement from the West Australian newspaper, July 30, 1932; “A marble finished wall panel, known as Tilux, is being used extensively throughout Australia and New Zealand in the construction of dwelling houses and also for modernising old-fashioned bathrooms and kitchens. It is waterproof and fire retardant, and, as it is available in various colours and finishes, can be adapted to harmonise with any colour scheme. Tilux can be easily applied to any wall base, being just as adaptable to timber studs as to brick, stone or concrete. It is manufactured by James Hardie and Co, Ltd, of Riverdale.” I’m reading a lot of 1930s newspaper articles about popular ways to renovate “old-fashioned” homes, and I’m seeing a lot of what you’ve seen and identified in videos. Thanks very much, you’re giving us a valuable resource to study and enjoy. ***EDIT*** Hahaha, I was too excited about commenting that I did so before your bit at the end, so this stuff isn’t Tilux then. But, those swirly green and pink panels seen in some of your videos just may be!

The first thing that struck me as you were walking towards the front was that the roof was intact and even though the back was not as perfect, it was still good. Probably explains why the floors aren't covered in bird droppings, although suspect that where there were droppings and a nest on one wall, is that the birds were getting in through the chimneys. Did you hear me say 'yes' when you asked if it was a hall runner? 😂 Also, in the room to the left as you face the front door, I noticed that there was brown hessian fabric wallpaper which was a thing in the 1970s (I had some in one room with a brick patterned vinyl type paper on the feature wall, so the hallway paper is probably also from the 70s. Loved that the washtub was still intact and standing. I hope someone turns this back into a home. You are spoiling us with these bonus videos, so many thanks for the extras! 😊😊

Hi Paul - a good solid restoration potential! Did anyone notice the oblong, three holed object behind the kitchen door @6:36? It reminded me of the tea towel holders available in Scotland in the 1950's - push the tea towel through the pronged plastic of the hole and it would hang there forever.

I once lived and worked on a large rural property that had multiple cottages that were once occupied by farm hands. I lived for a while in one that had been derelict for some time but did some repairs to make it livable. I think you'd find many abandoned houses in rural areas were once used as accommodation for a once more populated rural workforce

Even if the landholders are agreeable with offering ground leases the insurmountable universal obstacle to new occupation and renovation is isolation and cost. Generally these places are let go due to the wholesale consolidation of the industry from single family farm holdings into large scale family or corporate owned enterprises which has run rampart in Oz since the 1960’s. Diminishing local population to backfill - too far out to live and work for younger families. The tyranny of distance at work.
