@@NickCostaMusic I watched this video again and again I was amazed by the sound. This is one of the best drums made by Ludwig. I have question for you. There are brass hoops on your drum. Ludwig staged the same at the Jazz Festival. But then they started installing steel hoops. You've probably played drums like these. Please tell me how brass hoops affect the sound, what is the difference with steel hoops.

Last year I scored the "Barrett Deems" Signature transition badge snare in black diamond pearl, at a garage sale for $40. By far my luckiest drum score, and it sounds absolutely phenomenal. Mine also has the puck shaped knob, but has a different snare strainer, yet also has the WFL butt plate.

That's a FANTASTIC find! This throw off is decent, although you need specific wires to attach them to the bottom with a screw.

Very nice! I have the exact same drum dated 1958. It is the 5 1/2 × 14 Buddy Rich model. Mine is also silver sparkle and all original near mint condition. The round muffler and round adjustment knob are correct. The baseball bat muffler wasn't used until the early 60's and lasted until 1969. Ludwig went back to the round muffler in 1970. Your drum sounds fantastic, as does mine. The fact that the snares partially extend past the shell, in my opinion, give the drum a bit more sensitivity and don't choke it like regular snares sometimes can. Oh, and leave the muffler off unless you're recording it in that low tuning. That and the medium tuning sounded really good ! Very nice playing!

Thank you for the info regarding the muffler and knob, always looking for new info regarding history and specs of vintage drums. I agree - It's almost a middle ground between a super sensitive and standard snare. I just wish companies still made the wires, though I understand why they don't. @@NickCostaMusic I have a Del Ray I think it is. WMP stencil 8 lug mahogany shell that I need to redo. So yellowed it looks like it came off of a NYC jazz club backline kit that was smoked around for 50 years. That’s why I wanted it lol. Have to swap the lugs and add a throw off. Will see.

Vintage snares have that certain pillow-ness to the attack, if you get what I mean. Modern snares are much sharper sounding. Also your kit sounds amazing!

Totally do - could be the wood aging with time, or because they were thinner shells, maybe even less lugs or a combo of all 3. Appreciate the kind words on the kit! It’s a @ludwigdrumshq legacy mahogany. Modern take on a vintage classic
