Nick, it was nice to hear a Peavey snare drum for the 1st time. I always wondered what they sounded like in this type of recording setup. Thanks!

I have never played a Black Beauty but if it is like other brass snares then that means its a pretty heavy drum. And my LM-402 is chrome over aluminum with triple flange hoops which is very light... So this puts them WORLDS apart and no video will truly show what that means. A heavy drum, in my experience, does not respond to lighter playing anything like a lighter weight drum and that is what makes the LM402 so unique. It is so versatile and can handle so many types of gigs and feels so nice when you need something that will sound great even at lighter playing, or with "quieter" sticks like brushes, or rods.. the broomsticks sound amazing even at low volume... nothing compares. It's so responsive to the lightest touches and still sounds so full and great when heavier drums won't come to life until a certain velocity wakes them up... It's limitation is harder, louder playing styles, but only at extremes. In a rack full of snares, the LM402 is one of the few snares that truly has something unique to offer. And if the BB is a heavier brass drum, then I completely agree that they would absolutely compliment each other because they completely cover each's short-comings... if you can even say they have any.

People can hate and say what they want to about anything Peavey. We grew up with Peavey amps and PA's in the 70's, 80's, and 90's here in Mississippi. That is what we could afford, and they were bomb proof! My RP 500 kit is the one I regret selling the most. Kick ass snare and an atomic bass drum! Toms were so easy to tune, and deep and mellow with black pinstripes on top and bottom. Fast forward 30 years, midlife crisis. Found 6 piece RBS1 drums with no hardware. Lucky enough to have a cousin at Peavey that hooked me up with a truck load of hardware, extra small parts, and the 8" matching tom for 250 bucks. When I went down to the factory to pick it up , they had 3 semi trailers of hardware they were more than happy to sell. I think the rest was sold at auction a year or so later when they closed the doors. What a shame! When Peavey was rocking here in Mississippi, they made some incredible equipment!

I got the three tunings right, I relied on the overtones, obviously the BB having a more metallic sound, however, it was more difficult than I expected. And yes, you are right, those drums are HEAVY, I have a Gretsch BB 14” x 6.5”, which weighs approximately 8 kg, not fun to lug around. Great video, Nick!
