I think this song is about Dave himself telling a story in third person. Dave picks up Kurt's guitar when no one else is around and plays it. The common friendship is music. That is the friend of a friend. The friend of Dave and Kurt is music. Then when Krist and Kurt hear Dave singing and playing guitar, they walk in and just listen without saying anything. Hence the lyrics "No one speaks." Heart touching.

Mark Cox Kurt played on left-handed guitar. Did Dave play the same?

@@frankblack7689 it was Kurt's guitar. Kurt wasn't left handed, he was ambidextrous and started right handed. it wouldn't be crazy for Kurt to have a right handed guitar.

It is though. Just written when Kurt was alive. It's about Kurt and Krist when they all lived together.

It's about a Friend of a Friend-In my opinion it's about the guitar of Kurt or Krist.

I always thought this song was something Dave wrote right after Kurt’s death. The somber tone felt that way.

The somber tone of this song makes me think of how Dave must have felt after deciding to pick up a guitar for the first time after Kurt’s death.

Does anyone know the relationship between this track and Brant Bjork's Waiting for the Coconut to Drop? This came first so I'm guessing Brant's is a cover...
