Carol and John's is a nice store that's got a lot of space and does a lot of positive stuff for the community, but you've got to be very careful not to fall for sticker shock when you shop there. They do half off sales on almost a monthly basis, and the reason for that is because people's eyes go right to the price tag and they're too busy thinking about how much money they're potentially saving to look at the books themselves to see what condition they are in. I've gotten burned one time too many at that store buying books in good faith, only to take them home and discover that the board concealed a rip in the back cover or there was damage to the interior pages. They're part of the reason I started including the name of the store in my records when cataloging the comics in my collection, so if I have too many flawed books coming from the same store I know not to buy there anymore. It's a good place for dollar bin diving, but if you're buying out of a regular back issue bin of theirs then inspect the hell out of the book first and take it out of the bag just to be sure. If it's a wall book with a grade they've assigned to it, then assume it's at least two grades lower so you don't accidentally overpay. Thankfully, there was only one book with a noticeable flaw that I could see on the video, so it looks like you took proper precaution. I will echo the sentiment that, if it were my money, I would've at least left $100 in the fund as seed money to minimize your risk in case doesn't sell as well as you're hoping. However, ASM is one of those series that always sells regardless of the significance of the issue, so you lowered your risk right there. Plus, you know that modern collectors put a premium on things like newstand editions, even though newsstand book prior to the 1990s are almost as common as the Direct Edition. It's still somewhat risky to go all in after accumulating so much profit, but at least it's a calculated risk. More than likely, it will pay off.

If we assume that everything is in the NM range… The Silver Spider-Man # 1s are indeed $20 books, but the thing to remember when dealing in raw copies is that any book sold in a polybag is usually worth more if it’s still in the bag rather than unbagged. In this case, a polybagged copy of the same book is worth almost double ($35). Silver Surfer Vol. 2 # 1 is a $16 book. It’s a solid book, but these are so plentiful out in the wild that it’s only worth buying to flip if you can get it for $3 or under. Iron Man # 282 is one of those books that seems to always sell for at least double its FMV at online auction, and it’s one that continues to go up in value even in a down market. Three years ago, this was a $50 book that was selling for $100 online, and today it’s a $110 book that I routinely see selling for $200 or more. Funny thing, I popped my head into Carol & John’s during their weekend sale the week after the Late Night Sale and they had 3 copies of IM # 282 on their wall for $50 after discount. I came back the next day with my wife, as she often sees flaws in books that I miss and C&J's grading isn't the most reliable, but in that time they sold ALL THREE OF THEM! Point being, it’s an in-demand book so swing for the fences when you go to sell it. Wolverine # 88 is currently $90, but with the FOMO being strong on this book it can definitely sell for higher. Infinity Gauntlet # 1 is worth $60, and again it’s one of those books that always sells ever though you’d think everybody already has a copy by now. That and Silver Surfer # 44 (1st Infinity Gauntlet) are hard books to find in the wild at a decent price as even non-LCS stores know what they are and over-charge for them, but for some reason I always find copies of Thanos Quest for cheap. Both issues are around $40 FMV, but I literally just found one for a dollar at a random Record Exchange. ASM # 250, 302 - 305, 313, 324 are worth $20 each. ASM # 306 - 311, 314 are $18 since the print runs started going up by this point, but 306 always sells for much higher because of the Action Comics # 1 homage. ASM # 312 and 325 are $30 books, and both have increased in value over the last six months so I always grab them if they're under $10. ASM # 328 is worth $35. ASM # 315 is the most expensive Spidey book you grabbed at $50, but I’d recommend doing at least a cold press on that before you sell it to see if you can get rid of that minor spine roll. The ASM issues of Kraven’s Last Hunt are worth the most, with both 293 and 294 being $40 books. The Spectacular Spider-Man issues are worth the least ($10 each), but people often pay $25 - $30 for them on the assumption that they’re worth the same as the ASM and Web issues. ASM # 332, 346, and 347 are $25 books solely for the covers, although 332 has been given “key issue” status for being the first appearance of Venom’s tongue (and yes I feel ridiculous just typing that). ASM # 362 and 363 are both currently $30, but those early Carnage appearances have all dropped exponentially over the last two years. ASM # 323 is a $12 book. ASM # 282 also has a $12 FMV but a book like that always sells exponentially higher because people think the Marvel 20th Anniversary covers are worth way more than they actually are (it’s the just the handful of keys and the Star Comics that have a high value). They also overpay for newsstand variants, So if you price this newsstand 20th Anniversary cover at $25 or even $30 dollars, odds are you’ll probably get it. So you spent $715 and you’ve got almost $1400 worth of books, so on paper you have the potential to at least double your money. It obviously helps that most of these books are spec collector dog whistles (NEWSTANDS! MCFARLANE COVERS! VENOM AND CARNAGE!), so the odds are pretty good that most of what you have can sell for much higher than their current fair market value. Play your cards right, and you could triple your money or better.

@Kikiscomics Comic Book Realm. It's a free price guide website for both raw slabbed books that aggregates from online auction sites. The cool thing about the site is that you have the option to join as a free member to post your Want and/or Sell lists which then links to the price guide entry for those exact books. It also links to current eBay auctions. As someone who lives in the same area as Greg and goes to many of the same stores as him, I can confidently say that if you walk into Carol and Johns right now they'll have a 9.2 raw Infinity Gauntlet # 1 on the wall for $60, or Half Price Books will have a beat up copy will be in the locked case with a $40 price tag. I know for a fact that Steelyard Record Exchange has every other issue of Infinity Gauntlet for $20 each, so # 1 would be priced much higher if they had one. Of course, the real wisdom of collecting is knowing that a comic book is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

It’s a risk to spend the whole bank but you know your audience and what will sell so I think you are closer to the goal!

You would have loved being in this store I went to when the store owner showed me his Hulk 181 VG+ condition and sold it to me for 450.00. Deals are out there when you ask and look

Started with $10. Go back and check out the beginning of the series, def worth it. I've only been doing it since May.
