Hi James! I'm hopeful that you see this comment. I hope it offers you a little extra appreciation, pride, and inspiration. I've been following your channel for probably 2 years by now. You inspired me to start my first garden and you e become somewhat of an authority figure in my mind when it comes to gardening. Last year, my oldest son turned 3. It was his first year really being active in our garden. He planted his first seeds, watered his first seedlings, and harvested his first vegetables and berries. This year, we moved to Poland and have acquired 10 acres, where we are building our dream homestead. Our kids are now 5 months, almost 2, and almost 4 (in may). My almost 4-year-old is OBSESSED with your channel and it gives me so much joy that every time he wants to watch a video, he says, "Mama! I want to watch James' garden!" And everytime you harvest a fruit or vegetable, he jumps with joy and shouts "mama, a tomato! Oh, look! A cucumber! WOW an apple!!" It's an incredible feeling. I'm so grateful to you and your channel. Thank you for all of it!!!

Wow, that melon looks so delicious. Your garden must smell so wonderful from all the fruit trees, flowers, and veggies. Great video. Where ever the squirrels homes are there will be so many nut trees in the future from them. So your loss is actually another area's gain with many trees waiting to grow. The birds too will carry your seeds and replant them near by. There will be food forest's near by some day. Love this video.

Hi James! I’m so glad your growing echinacea (coneflower)! It is almost like a natural antibiotic! It’s awesome! Also if you get a bite from those pesky insects, (unless it’s really poisonous) if you put echinacea tincture on a cotton ball, and tape over bite, it will heal quick, and also feel better faster! It also works amazingly with sore throats, the tea really helps. It usually lowers fevers, and helps fight colds. Just wanted to let you know these flowers are awesome! Loving Tuck too! 🐶

Love your enthusiasm! I read a Chinese proverb lately which I think you will like ..."The best fertilizer is the gardener's shadow." Looking forward to more great videos and getting my garden going this spring here in the Pacific Northwest (Surrey, BC). You've given me incentive for a variety of food plants: apples and other stone fruit (espaliered on my back fence), peach, blueberries, currents, and tons of annuals. I can send photos when it comes together if you like. Cheers!

Hi James! Thanks for showing us your wonderful bounty, and, of course, for your wisdom and enthusiasm (and Tuck!) I was wondering if you could make a video on how to clean up your garden and amend the soil for the winter so that it's ready to go in the spring. This year was my first year growing in new beds, and I made the mistake of filling them all with mushroom compost, which was unbalanced (e.g., radishes didn't bulb up, probably because the compost was missing something they needed; it really should have been a mixture of things. I'd like to add some soil and nutrients before it gets too cold to garden here in central NJ, but could really use some guidance.

jersey girl here...as for a cat, any breed will due. females though are usually the hunters or huntress! make sure you get her fixed, otherwise be prepared for howling day and night when she hits puberty. I got my girl at the shelter as a kitten. she purred the minute I picked her up. she brings me mice and sometimes snakes as gifts. before you let her to become outside and indoor cat, keep her inside awhile to get used to you and your home. when you do allow her out make sure her collar if you get her one is a breakaway, so she doesn't get strangled if caught on something. I have 4 long hair chihuahuas, a German shepard who thinks she is a chihuahua, my cat who is a fluff ball, and my son has 1 cat and 1 kitten which he rescued from the woods. oregon woods can be pretty rough. cougar, bear, bobcat, coyote, wolf and birds of prey. good luck and love your videos

Curious about how you're processing all your produce. It's nearly killed me cleaning, chopping, freezing/making sauces and in some cases parboiling then freezing so as to not lose anything. I'm running out of space in the freezer to store things and although I've just purchased a water bath canner and have some fermenting jars I haven't been braves enough to try yet. What are you doing with all your food? Your enthusiasm is contagious-very encouraging to me as a newbie!
@melindawolfUS
@melindawolfUS 2 жыл бұрын
I dehydrate most my produce since I have so little storage space myself. Dehydrated foods become so small and light and last a long time. I make my own green powder for healthy smoothies and I leave out the greens that make me gassy. Dried squash is awesome to add to Alfredo sauce, dried fruits make my oatmeal like a desert. Dried veggies are concentrated flavor, can be used like a spice. I make dried caramelized onions to add to soups and sauces and I don't have to spend an extra hour on dinner to add them to my recipes.

@Pricilla and Melinda- thanks for the replies. I'm hearing about possible increasing food costs not to mention shortages (we're in Canada) and we are a family of 7-lol so the idea of adopting homesteading, more self sufficient lifestyle practices is very appealing to me. To be honest I've been enamoured with all things health, wellness, herbals and organic gardening for some time now. The whole outdoors back to nature, simplicity/minimalism lifestyle makes sense to me in our stressful, increasingly techno worlds. I absolutely love the dehydrating tips! What a genius way to up nutrition and avoid preservatives in things like veg stock etc and extend the seasons- wow so many benefits. I appreciate the abundant examples/details in the reply. Take care!

To use that trifolate orange without a huge amount of sugar, infuse it in rice vinegar or vodka. You'll get the flavor in a way that you can use in salad dressing, as a flavor extract, or in mixed drinks. The flavor is lovely, but it's super potent and you have to get around a lot of resin and seeds to enjoy it.

So jealous in a good way. What a harvest! By the way, those oranges are perfect to marinate pork, with some garlic and cumin. Great video!
