Thanks for sharing your lovely handmade linen outfits. They are a work of art. I’m so like you…I save everything too. I have so many items packed away. From time to time I venture into various boxes and enjoy the many memories attached to the crafted item. Old jewelry, vintage books and illustrations, etc. So yes, please share more of your sewing/knitting, memories, etc.

This brings back so many memories! I was an excellent seamstress & sewing teacher. I started sewing at 14-15…gathered skirts in 50’s. I studied tailoring in college & used clothing lab machines between classes & made lots of my clothes. I made my daughter’s & sister’s wedding dresses. I had same cardboard cutting surface, early Singer (best top stitching) & sewed for my daughter growing up (formal dresses & denim lined jacket etc. thanks for reminding me…don’t sew now! Thanks! Loved it!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Kaye, I didn't catch if the plaid skirt and blouse were also linen. They're just lovely! I love linen and have some yardage in beige that I have saved for many years. I just have to say that your mother's Vogue pattern she made in white absolutely took my breath away. I looked for that pattern and found it listed for nearly $40.00 on Etsy! Your sewing is impeccable. Please show us more.

Thank you for making this series! I LOVE the outfit in the closing shot-off the shoulder top with gauchos or palazzos. I made many of my own dresses in high school. I was quite shapeless and couldn’t find dresses that fit. I still sew from time to time but it’s more functional-alterations, repairs, curtains, kitchen items. Hearing you describe the feeling of wearing linen is just the nudge I needed to go buy some of the linen I’ve been thinking of for a nice comfy shirtdress-my “cutified” version of Great Grandma’s housedress!

This was fun and nostalgic to watch Kaye. I still have all my patterns from 60's/70's/80's. My home ec teacher wore a lot of Vogue patterns and I just had to make the same one she wore. Vogue was cool! It was a starburst design in front. We had Berninas then and I later got a Kenmore sewing machine. Remember bound button holes. Even made a hat to go along. I did a little runway modeling but I am only 5'1" so not the career for me LOL I no longer have anything I made except for a sweater I knitted. I made flannel shirts for my dad. Ironically I would not have fit into many outfits most of my life and now at 69 I weigh less than I did then. Would love to look at all your scrapbooks/memories of your jobs.

I never had the confidence to sew my own clothes. I do recall trying to make a terry cloth summer pop top with sleeves. I put the sleeves in upside down...try tearing out white thread from white terry, egads. In the 70s and 80s, I thought I would never get old but here I am and strangely enough I like it. You have so many treasures that those that come after you will love to have. What a wonderful legacy.... imagine them saying my great great grandmother made this in the olden days lol. Happy New Year Kaye.

I love sewing and have stepped away from it for years due to raising my kiddo. I made many costumes and altered stuff from time to time...but truly creating garments...sadly..no. I would love to see more of your creations! You are a very talented lady. We have much in common with art degrees, a love of sewing, fiber arts (I am a crocheter) weaving, and avid gardener. Gardening has taken over as a strong passion and influence over the past 15 years. Please share more Kaye. Thanks for letting us in and showing us your treasures. P.S. I made a linen suit with this vintage tea-stained-looking print over 25 years ago when I had to wear dresses to work in a custom fine furniture store. The leftover fabric from COM (Customers Own Fabrics) we could get free at the warehouse once a year. I loaded my Nissan Maxima up with 70-something bolts of cloth and sewed every day. I miss that suit. I was so proud of it and people loved it.

Very talented in many different areas. Why not sell to a younger person who would give them a second life. Keeping them in a box isnt doing the items any good. There are young sewers out there, not as many in the past. The schools need to bring back these skills to the kids. The younger generations need to be exposed to many different things.
