I watch ALOT of KZbin videos on modes. You’re definitely up there with people like Jen’s larsen as far as I am concerned. I learned so much about Lydian I never considered. Thank you for your wonderful insight. All the best to you.

Recommendations: Brent Mason (Texas swing, Jazz, Country masterclass) Guthrie Trapp, another all around masterclass XYZ - Marc Diglio, hard to find footage but a lot of groove and swing in Marc’s playing I find hard to capture. Lead playing is ridiculous too. Johnny Hiland - Simialar to Brent but his rock versitlity is insane. His live KZbin video at layman’s term is one of my favorites. Also played Going Down with Sammy at Tahoe Wabo. Great video as always looking forward to the next!

I feel like an idiot for dismissing music class in grade school because I felt like I wasn't being taught what I wanted to learn which was metal thanks for helping me catch up on so many aspects that I should have learned back then 🤔

"The Simpsons", "The Jetsons" and lots of other cartoons/fantasy series use Lydian. It's the go-to mode for the "Dany Elfman"/Tim Burton/Kooky Carnival sound, as well. Amazing the difference one note can make to an flavor of a scale. The "Sharp 4"/"Flat 5" is leaned on heavily in lots of Jazz, as well.

I learned to play guitar with tablature in my youth back in the early 90s I envy your understanding of music theory and the ability to read sheet music. I guess it's never to late to try. Thank you youtube.

One Size Fits All is my favorite Zappa album. For years I couldn't properly hear the Lydian mode, even though I could move my fingers through it. One day, I played a C# minor chord above the open A string by mistake and finally heard it. Now, nearly every time I'm dealing with a Maj7 chord, I'll play Lydian on it.

It’s also great that you’re showing the chords that bring out the flavour of each mode which is sometimes confusing for a lot of players. Let’s have the other four modes soon please David 👍🎸👍🎸

Great jam! Hopefully this doesn't offend, but I may hear a lirttle Holdsworth creeping in, at least on this jam. Of course, I think this is a wonderful thing as AH's compositions and soloing left me stunned for 40 years.

I enjoy your presentations, and thanks for this one, but I sure don't love the fuzztone distortion like you do. Especially exploring tonal relationships, why bury the tone? That jam reminds me a lot of Lotus Feet with a Lila's Dance meter. cool!

LATE NIGHT, The Pink Floyd guitar solo TIME is in D lydian mode which uses a G# played over D major 7th chord. Often David Gilmour to use the lydian scale but start on 6th scale degree of the key or the root note of the chord which would be the aeolian scale of the key when playing over major7th chords, major 9th chords, minor7th chords or min 9th chords. Example G minor 7th chord would be E lydian scale would be in the key of B major, but you start & end on the G note as your tonal center/home of the E lydian scale which = G aeolian scale in the key of B major. Its a Relative Mode trick how to get that dreamy sound when using the lydian scale as the aeolian scale is how Gilmore and Wright would use the lydian scale to get that floyd dreamy sound. When using lydian scale you hear that #4/b5 which sounds to angular so what rick wright and gilmour did was use the lydian scale but changed the tonal center note using the 6th scale degree of the key or chord tone target note as the tonic tonal center to use the lydian mode as an aeolian tonality. Its a Relative mode floyd trick but you can hear it in Obscured by Clouds/Pompeii Era how they are using the aeolian scale over minor 7th and 9th chords. For Major 7th and 9th chords floyd would play the relative scale, example C major 7th, floyd would use the A aeolian scale but instead of playing A aeolian natural minor scale to get that floyd sound they would use F lydian scale but start on the note A as the tonal center and end on the note A which gives that Dreamy floyd effect.
