His version of Johnny B Goode on KZbin, is exhilarating to say the least...

Ace gave great tribute to Chuck Berry for his particular style of double stop heavy and single note runs. I noticed you didn’t mention that. It is kind of important 😂.

Takes me back to 1980 as a freshman in HS trying to figure out Frank licks on an acoustic because that's all I had. I was awful but man all I wanted to do was be like Frank.

Saw him live 3 times. Have every album he's ever put out. From "Maxoom" to the end. I think 16 or 17 vinal records. He played here locally near my small town at the "Orange Blossom" restaurant. A very small venue with maybe 75 person audience. Just a great player. Thank you David for this. Much appreciated.

Frank Marino, a true pioneer in guitar techniques. 1. Behind the bridge picking to create unusual sounds. 2. Faux slide emulation with the Gibson Vibrola Tremolo Bar. 3. Backward/Reverse guitar lines live in real time. He is one the few guitarists that I can think of that can equal in skill what Jeff Beck does without effects and what Adrian Belew with effects, all wrapped up in one guitar player.

Gary Moore supercharged my guitar playing. I understood him, and I needed that. With so many new virtuosos coming onto the scene shortly after, his playing me out so much! Great lesson, David!!.

14:20 When I hear this clean tapping it made me think of the sound of VanHalens "Cathedral" without the use of the volume nobs. I don't know if I'm recalling this accurately, but Frank was asked about when he started tapping on his official site, and he said that he started tapping in the mid 70's, but that he wasn't the first guitarist to do it. He mentioned that the fret tapping on "Norwegian Wood" utilized a two-handed approach. The tapping he used on "Ain't Dead Yet" and "Juggernaut" were over several strings at once and playing different arpeggios as the chords changed. He mentioned that the tune "Moonwalk" off of Mahogany Rush VI from 1976 has fret tapping on it.

Saw Frank Marino 01/08/81 in the UK. He was part of the Heavy Metal Holocaust along with Ozzy, Motorhead and Triumph etc. Frank was absolutely amazing especially during his solo spot. Privileged to have witnessed the late great Randy Rhoads the same day. 😊

Really enjoyed this! Thanks so much. Frank Marino is certainly a guitarist deserving wider recognition. Attended some of their concerts back in the 70's. Never met Frank Marino, but I did get to know Jimmy Ayoub, the drummer for Mahogany Rush. Got to jam with Jimmy which was always a blast! Cheers. Keep up the great videos!!!

When I was a kid, Frank Marino was pretty popular among my friends. Especially anyone who was really into Hendrix. Speaking of, Randy Hansen did the best Hendrix covers. We opened for him and Biddy Miles once. Randy showed up at 3pm for soundcheck, and the rest of the bands showed up at 4, but Buddy was late and made them not let any of us do a soundcheck before him. He was so late he didn't get a soundcheck. So yea, I don't like Buddy much, but had a great time talking to Randy and watching the crazy show he put on. At one point the crowd literally handed him down from the balcony to the crowd below while he was playing the whole time.

He's using that amp you see right behind him. It's a Behringer. I don't know the model. He has talked about it before on videos about his gear. It's him though, not his gear really. He probably sounds a lot better through a better amp. The thing that I've found that makes me sound best is trying to make it sound good with no amp. lols When you plug in again, dial the attack back down and now you have way more control.

So cool. Seen Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush a couple of times in the 70's. Both him and Trower took parks of the Hendrix sound to their own place(sorry, never got into SRV for whatever reason). Yes he was a Badass. Glad to see you doing this video. 👍
