Seth, my favorite English teacher once told me there are too many amazing books out there to waste your time reading something you don’t like, but always give it at least two chapters and never be so stubborn that you’re unwilling to come back and give it another try later in life. As a reader this conversation is giving me all the feels. 1. My goal is 52 books this year. And I think Amy is on track 2. Like Amy I also slip in a few children's books to keep me on track 😊. I would also suggest graphic novels. 3. I agree with Seth. You've got to give yourself permission to bail out out of a book. Life's too short! And that question is something that you need to decide upon if you're serious about reading

Advice for reading Russian classics: Get yourself a list of the characters and each of their twentyfive different nicknames and formal names. It will save you trying to keep track of all these persons and then a couple of hundred pages in realize that the 75 persons are really 23 persons, but by now you are not quite sure which of them are really the same.

I feel this. Usually when I don’t finish a book, it’s because I simply forgot I was trying to read something that didn’t engage me in a lasting way. When I’m *actively* considering DNFing a book, though? By then I’m usually so annoyed by it that I end up finishing the whole damn thing so I can give a sincere and well rounded argument as to which circle of literary hell it should be banished 😤
