No problem listening to Apollo snore, as this is still him being alive and with you. My big Maine Coon Cat, Scunci, snored pretty loud most of his nearly 16 years! Then, louder with his Feline Squamous Cell mouth cancer from August of 2020 until his end in November 2020. His "Aunt" Pookie also snored! I lost her to complications of FIV+ secondary infection. If ONLY our precious fur-babies could be with us for so much longer than they usually do. Praying that Apollo recovers with the treatments! 🩵🙏🏼🩵

Oh Nancy I am so sorry you lost your fur babies, it is so hard. I lost Apollo‘s brother Fetti 3 years ago to an aggressive mouth cancer, he died in my arms . I am still not over it and never will. Apollo‘s mouth cancer is not that aggressive and they say he has a 95 % chance to be fully cured, that‘s why we are doing the radiation. For Fetti it would just have prolonged his suffering, so I did not do it. Nancy thank you so much for your support , it means so much ❤️

Surely it would be cheaper, safer and more sensible to build a completely new stretch of road out of Grindavik to the west of the Blue Lagoon and rejoin the original road North of the eruptions. I sympathise with your worry about your wee dog, they are our children,. Good morning Silki, Butterfly & friends! Yes agree I am surprised, that Grindavik Residents were home, with all those gases coming out. Surely any wind change would be unsafe. The cost of all this is hard to imagine, I guess it will be meted to all in Iceland. Which makes me think maybe the Blue Lagoon, ought to be Publicly owned, so that as everyone is supporting it to be reopened, perhaps they should benefit from any Financial Benefit from it too! It's hard to imagine, how living there will be sustainable in the future. Awful reality to face. I understand how emotive that must be, but who can afford to keep up that cost, especially as this cycle of eruptions seems to be regular now. Difficult situation for the Icelanders 😰💯👏🙏🙏🙏

Agreed. This is probably a losing battle, and eventually nature will cover it all. Still, I do admire how hard they work to save the area, and I do hope it's not a futile effort.

This suggestion may be way off in left field, but around the turn of of 20th Century, Nicolai Tesla built and perfected a tower that drew and dispersed electricity through the atmosphere. Continuing research and development of this new way of generating electricity was stopped when Tesla's backer, J.P. Morgan, realized this could bankrupt him because this would have been free energy, and power plants runned by coal or hydro, which he had, would become obsolete. If there was a way to disperse electricity generated by the Svartsengi geothermal power plant through the atmosphere, it would save on the constant repairing of lines overwhelmed by lava.

I just wonder with all the money being spent to save what they’re trying to save. Maybe it would’ve been better just to let it flow settle then stop then work out what we have to repair what we have to replace and how we can keep our people safe… just saying you will never beat mother Earth and at the moment something is heating the centre of our earth up which is making all those landmasses move which then makes volcanoes etc. God bless the people of Iceland.❤
@teardowndan536418 күн бұрын
When they say walls can only handle two more eruptions like this, I think that has more to do with the costs of making them ~4m taller each time than the actual ability to do so: if you raise walls by moving into the lava field, you can make them however wide and tall you need. You can even drive piles and add steel mesh between layers of loose soil to stabilize it. But at some point, the costs of protection exceed the value of what you want to protect. Two more eruptions with still no signs that the 2-3 months cycle will end any time soon is likely the "cut our losses" threshold.
@robhudson150117 күн бұрын
I was wondering what the affect of so much heat above the Swartsengi magma chamber will have. Is it possible that heat dried crust will become more brittle and allow magma to flow in a more direct route?
@Joergthereader18 күн бұрын

They been lucky the eruptions have been somewhat north mostly then south. Back in January the eruptions were mostly south and the one eruption busted through the defence walls of Grindavik and burnt down a few homes. It’s kinda amazing they saved the infrastructure this last year but I don’t know how much longer they can protect the power plant and the blue lagoon.

They need to make a river and have that lava drop in the river if they can connect those rivers from the ocean on both sides that flow will be diverted into a river
@ryans41318 күн бұрын
Kinda hard to do that because the eruptions have been in different places each time and most of the land is covered in lava that’s very rocky not easy to navigate and some of it’s still hot.

When are all these eruptions going to block out the sun
@tomnicholson211518 күн бұрын
Not this particular one in Iceland, takes a more explosive volcano to do that, like the one in Italy near Naples, which Silki does reports on. The sun probably won't be blocked completely though, it's only if lots of dust is ejected into the atmosphere, and then that can then reduce the sunlight hitting the earth's surface. Unless you very close to the volcano though, light will not be completely blocked.
@JH2482118 күн бұрын
Not these kind of eruptions. This eruption is effusive, meaning lots of lava flows that are low in gas content. The kind of eruptions that can block out the sun are Plinian eruptions. Volcanoes that erupt gas rich magma that is very explosive. They can generate eruptive columns 20-30 miles high and deposit ash high into the stratosphere. Even then the sun won't be fully blocked unless you livve relatively close to the volcano. What you will get in the rest of the world is dimmed sunlight, a strange persistent fog, and drastically lowered temperatures. This is what happened in 1815 with the eruption of Tambora (VEI7) It was called "The year without summer."

The Rykjanes peninsula (where this volcano is) is 829 square kilometres, the whole island of Iceland is 103 thousand square kilometres, the peninsula is tiny, so lots of Iceland is volcano free, although volcanic dust and smoke can affect a wide area, Iceland has plenty of safe area's. It is not just one giant volcano!
@nancymattingly864518 күн бұрын
@@tomnicholson2115 You should have put the word active before one giant volcano! It IS one giant volcano, made from plate movement.
@tomnicholson211518 күн бұрын
@@nancymattingly8645 You exagerate, Iceland is 30 million years old, and has been created by many smaller volcanos a lot of which are now dormant, just like much of the land surface of the entire earth, so it is definitely not one giant volcano! Sure there's plate movement continuously thining part of Iceland's surface but that is mostly located near the plate boundaries. Iceland is a similar size to Hungary or Portugal, so there's lots more to it than the Rykjanes peninsula.
@rosamarinosdottir63518 күн бұрын
People are talking about “the plates” I have noticed. Plate boundaries are the places where the Earth’s tectonic plates interact with each other. There are three main types of plate boundaries: divergent boundaries, convergent boundaries, and transform boundaries. These boundaries are the sites of most tectonic activity, including earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and the formation of new crust. In Iceland we have divergent boundaries. Two plates, the North American plate and the Eurasian plate moving away from each other. Tectonic plate movements and volcanic activity go hand in hand. I just think this is very unclear for many
