Me too. I'm probably not re-basing all my armies, but I want to be able to 3d-print movment trays witht he right size for all of them.

If they remove WS and the comparisson of WS where a skilled fighter gets harder to hit.. they will get a hard time convincing me. I like it that there are a thread of trying to get a simulation of a combat between historical and fantasy armies. Its not perfekt of course but I dont realy want bloodshed so I prefere not having 1-1 realism of the simulation. you feel and understand many times why rules exist becous its a way to simulate a army/unit/building/terrain funktion. If its only throw dice and make something happen I can play Ludo..

Ludo is fun ;) Jokes aside, I also hope that WS stays and they don't move over to the AoS-model of combat. But the combat of Warhammer Fantasy is what makes the game Fantasy. Change that and I feel like it's not WHFB anymore. So that is part of the heart and soul of the game imo :) //Måns

@@MiscastTable yes I think we are in agreement.. just tried to articulate what I believe is the "feel" of whfb.. the semi-simulation of two fantasy or historical armies clashing. if the choice is sigmar or ludo, I go ludo. :p

How do you feel about the ninth age's fix on WS? they use defensive skill and offensive skill, which I absolutely LOVE. It makes sense for units like, with elves/ berserk type units to have a high WS when it comes to hitting the opponent. But not a very high defensive skill. In eighth edition in general, models with high WS are just very good because it's a catch all situation where it's super good defensively AND offensively.

WS is nice and I hope they keep it, but is not game changer. The strongest component imo is movement, ranks & file wining more so in making the opponents run or give ground. As long as those elements are top notch, the rest of the game is just dressing, might be better or worst but is not the main thing for me.

I would wager that more than half the games of WHFB are decided in the movement phase. So I agree that movement is easily one of the most important part of the game. And I hope they don't mess with the current movement mechanic to much.

Have you heard any official statement regarding the translation of the rule books? Here in Sweden all the rules are only ever released in English. But I Know they release stuff in other languages as well.

All official information is related to the languages avaiable in official warhammer games, like AoS, 40k, Warcry, Kill Team, are spanish options, in other hand Horus Heresy, Necromunda and Old World are or will be in English German and French, besides Warhammer Fantasy Battles was till End Times in Spanish. @@MiscastTable

I'm so excited to field a proper ork army I used to love big 2000pt games of fantasy battle and I'm all for new mechanics that share a bit of each edition that worked. Age of sigmar never did it for me I already played 40k

Both Age of Sigmar and 40k are good games in their own right :) But there is something special about large rank and file armies! Currently painting some mangler squigs for my Orcs & Goblins army will be ready for release :D

Sounds great! I have a son (6 yo) and we paint together. It's a bit early for him to learn the rules, but it's fun to be able to share the hobby with the kids and do stuff together :) I with you the best of luck in your projects together!

I'm worried GW is going to dumb down the rules (free movement instead of wheeling, X+ to hit instead of WS table, etc.). If so, the game will be dead on arrival.

Agreed. The game is complex, but the people who play the game enjoy that aspect. Just having a universal +3 to hit, +4 to wound and 3+ to save, like in AoS, would not be well received from the Fantasy community .

They usually want to space out thier big releases. but maybe the consider AoS-players and ToW-players to be different demographics? Not quite sure.

TOW was clearly meant to launch this November both to coincide with the 40 years of Warhammer celebrations and to avoid what you're referring to, i.e. launch one fantasy game edition at around the same time that the promo for another fantasy game edition is bound to start. But they were caught between a rock and a hard place by their Chinese printers screwing up on the Legions Imperialis books. IMNSHO they made the wrong choice, as they had just enough time to not start publishing the rules articles for that game and to delay LI all the way to early next year instead. But obviously they decided that hype marketing has to be kept strictly in sequence. It is what it is. And if TOW launches in February, it should still be getting a month, maybe two, of focused sales before the "surprise announcement" of AoS4.

I think you can still over run a unit it will just happen alot less ofte on now which I think is a good thing that its chances of happening is less likely but it can still happen

Neither of us at the Miscast Table have ever played 4th or 5th edition. We have played 6th and onwards. But if the earlier editions had some great things I hope they bring them to the Old World 😀

Its funny, at 6:30 you said "I believe the rules will be solid." I have no idea what Games workshop has done in the last 10 years that would have given you this idea. 40k, their flagship product, has been marred in rules bloat for years. The new edition 40k is exactly the same. Hell, they even released a Tyranid codex that was OBSOLETE AT LAUNCH! Do you remember the League of Votann rules at launch? absolutely ridiculous. I loved WFB, I currently play 8th ed and Mordheim too. Basically, games with rules GW hasn't touched in decades. That's what makes them good games. The way GW try to monetise the rule systems leads to rules bloat, unnecessary complication and a never ending treadmill of editions/amendments/new seasons/new codex etc etc. I was eagerly anticipating TOW release back in 2019 when it was announced. But recently have realised it is very unlikely to be a game I enjoy playing. I'm sure the models will be amazing. But the rules, probably not.

I do agree that GW have messed up quite a few time on the rules front. It would be hard to argue otherwise 😀 However when it comes to the old world I belive the success of the game depends on getting the already established Warhammer Fantasy community on-board. If they make to drastic change from WHFB the game will be dead on arrival. And a dead game makes no money for GW. They can afford to mess up in 40k since they already have an established player pool. Messing up at the release of a game is something you cannot afford. So I expect them to really have thought this through and heavily cater to the existing audience. But you never know... 🤔

Titanicus is the only decent recent ruleset imo. Every other system they do, has an alternative by another company that's just.. better.

The whole reason that 40K is a complete mess is that it is guaranteed to sell gangbusters, anyway. That and churning out a new edition every three years at this point, so that they can keep printing money with the same dozen books (by now more like two dozen in the same tiny window) over and over again, which means that not even the core rules, let alone the codices, get serious testing before release, nor any time for player feedback before they have to start work on the next edition. None of the above applies to TOW, nor has it the same people working on it. They've had ample time to fine-tune the core rules, and based on the recent history of GW's other "niche" games, they aren't in a rush to start work on the next edition. As for the armies, worst case scenario people will get another evergreen iteration of WFB/TOW akin to WFB6 at launch by sticking with the army lists in the launch Ravening Hordes or Compendium or whatever else they're going to call it this time. But I genuinely expect there to be no notable power creep between army books for the core factions in this first narrative era. The "surprise" all-new Kislev army that will certainly cap it off in a release pitted against Warriors of Chaos round about in early 2025 may get a little boost in power to further boost sales, although I hope that they keep their worst instincts on this under control. After that I'm guessing they may shift focus from army books to campaign books for a bit to cover the Great War against Chaos in greater detail before another narrative covering the "missing" factions not yet "core". And after all of that, Cathay ought to be ringing in either a second edition or the start of a regional expansion into what's been going on in the east of the world. Come to think of it, all of the factions that they've declared to not be core armies due to not having been active in the Old World in the 2200s and 2300s by long-established canon, could easily have been causing all sorts of trouble in and around Grand Cathay at the very same time. Also, while AoS army books suffer somewhat similarly, and James Workshop only knows how AoS4 will turn out next year, AoS3 is actually a decent system for the type of game it's meant to be. Same for Warcry 2022. And to a degree even Kill Team 2021 despite being a huge downgrade from Kill Team 2018. Fair complaints have been made about the returns of both Blood Bowl and Necromunda having launched with huge holes in their rosters (transparently so players wouldn't resort to third-party models for "rules-only" units before GW had time to release the respective kits), but they've been fleshed out a lot over the years, and the editions in and of themselves have been good games from the start. The current Adeptus Titanicus and Aeronautica Imperialis are outright great, period, and Legions Imperialis looks to be so as well. And THH2 is quite good, too, which bodes particularly well for TOW.

Any info on what does this mean, if anything, for paperback warhammer fantasy novels like malus darkblade series? I would rather buy those books new from black library than used from amazon.

I have not seen any information regarding the fantasy novels being re-released with the launch of Warhammer: The Old World 🌎 However not re-releasing them seems like a missed opportunity. Not so sure about Malus Darkblade though, since the Dark Elves will not be one of the factions they will focus on in The old world. It's a great series and GW should print these books on demand for people who want them imo.

Not bringing back all factions is a bit of a bummer. My largest army is Dark Elves and they are not part of the factions that will be released for The Old World... But hopefully the game i great and other factions will be brought into the game as time goes on.

Would be fun if they did! The old wolves look a bit goofy but I have 10 in my Orcs and Goblins army and i quite like them :D But they have released newer wolf riders for AoS so I would think that it's more likley that GW will just sell the new ones instead.

Hopefully we will. There are rumors going around that the next two factions in focus after Bretonnia and Tomb Kings is going to be Empire and Orcs & Goblins. If that is the case i'm pretty sure we will get new characters for those factions then. But I have no idea if we will get new characters for every faction at launch.

Probably more likely for mortal races like that of men and skaven because as the time line moves on they'll get old and die ect. For faction like elves it will happen WAY less often and Dwarves will be somewhere in between given their places in the time lines. Probably won't stop them from doing the occasional new sculpt though for character models if the years were a bit hard on the old ones.

A note on the release date, they also said that Legions Imperialis was to be release in September, and it's not out yet. So nothing is fixed in stone yet. :D

That's because they were caught flat-footed by their Chinese printers screwing up on the Legions Imperialis books, which is the whole reason why TOW got pushed out of the November release window for Warhammer's 40th anniversary this year, to begin with. I'm sure they've triple-checked that they have all their ducks in a row for TOW.
