Regardless of the admittedly viable points, there's still a few things that wouldn't make sense, such as why the heck the ghost mother is haunting him instead of the woman instead who she could haunt. For all the know the woman lives alone too or in a similar situation, yet the ghost specifically chose to haunt him instead.
