For those naysaying the 705 - here is why I am highly interested. A year from now let’s ‘guess’ the price is around $1300 US. Then let’s say you buy an Italy RM amp which converts your 10 watts to near 300 watts for $900. And I can move this between home, mobile and portable. And it does HF, VHF, UHF AND DSTAR. This can be a VERY flexible rig. And for $2100, it’s about the same price as a 7300, KX2, and mobile rig combined. I for one like the idea of having one rig I program, learn, accessorize and enjoy. And that’s what it’s all about really, what gives your operating style the most enjoyment. Don’t get me wrong, I see others POV as well.

I can charge the battery pack using a Solar Panel designed for a cellphone. This is a great feature thats overlooked. Forget the tuner use a dipole resonant on the band you want

So Elecraft is doing an amazing job with their KX2 and KX3. Sota and resonant antennas. Yes we all carry multiple antennas up the hill. Please. Soundcard size. They are build in USB connectors. Will stick with my KX3 until they have build in tuner.

1450$ here in Canada, they raised the price of the IC-7300 to 1520$ to compensate the difference. What crazy price! It's too expensive!!

Why no antenna tuner? Cause we gotta have something for the IC-705mkii. Not one person asked if you can see the damn thing in the daylight. 7300 is almost impossible.

This is great thank you. Watch three of your channels and two of you are not shy in throwing a hardball. BUT, this was like watching slow pitch softball. ICOM just got the easiest interview they will ever have on the 705. I had higher hopes of the 705 but with this interview I am sticking with my current QRP rig.

Never mind the 705. So it appears that Icom has stopped making the ID-51A Plus 2 DSTAR HT. I couldn't help but notice that instead of developing something new and fresh, they just kept trying to reinvent the same radio. So it looks like they've abandoned DSTAR now. What's going on?

Chris, This segment was pre recorded so that question didn't get asked. Ray may drop into the live chat so if he does you can ask him. Based on numbers I've seen for other radios in the past, I'd say they aren't planning much more than 1000 units to start off with.

What about a case that can take the transceiver and 13.8V Bioanno battery pack which would be worn like a back-pack with associated antenna and just use the UP/DN buttons to go up or down the frequency, What connecting a Longwire antenna to your transceiver via a 16:1 UNUN.

I'm curious what the projected dynamic range of this rig will be. I get that it's designed for size over performance, but if it uses a 14-bit adc (like the 7300 and 9700; not that they share the same ADC, but they are both 14-bit), the dynamic range will be limited to a mere 86.057dB in a perfect scenario.

The 705 not having a tuner shouldn’t be an issue for me I’ve got the Elecraft T- one tuner that I picked up at a swap about a year ago for my norcal 40 qrp cw transceiver. So I can easily implement that with the 705 and it’s good for up to 20 w, so it says on the sticker on the front of the unit and it does 6m as well as HF

It's odd, but Julian OH8STN has much more information in his IC-705 mini update video a few days ago than Ray was able to offer.

I know. As independent youtubers, Julian and the rest of us have the ability to say what we want in our videos, editorialize, offer up best guess etc.. Ray on the other hand, has to stick with what the Mother Ship wants him to say. What we can be sure of though, if ray says it’s so, it is.

£1300 in the UK. Too much for a QRP radio when the 7300 is £100 less and 100W, or the IC-7100 all band is £300 less. So out in the field I'll stick with my FT817 for now. What would be ideal is a modern replacement for the IC-7000 with DSTAR & built in USB audio, now that would be worth considering.

Looks cool and all, but for the best bang for the buck Xiegu G90 is $450, 1-20Watts, has a built in antenna tuner.

Buy a KX3, the screen on this thing will suck your batteries dry. Icom, this should not be the price you are asking. If one thing it should be heaps cheaper as manufacturing is easier with SDR. Sure it looks the part but its priced just like an iPHONE.....it just allows you to talk like any other radio. I just ordered an FT-891.

rays audio sounds muffled must be using an icom LOL I cant believe they don't want to build the radio we want. They could've made it with a built in tuner and it would've been AMAZING. but noooo we cant do that. I will say the smartest thing they did was use the handheld 51plus 2 battery for the new 705. Best move ever.

For a hiking/outdoor rig, it would sure be nice to have the NOAA wx station available but from all I can find that option will not be available and I really don't understand why. 73 de KF7VUT

The specs on the video (at 25:25) shows it will receive 0.033 to 199.999 Mhz. so it will receive the WX frequencies. Don't know if it will recognize the NOAA WX alert signal though. 73 Allen N6ORJ

The price of this radio is stupidly expensive. It will be nearly $2500 Aud. That’s a joke for 10w. Buying yaesu instead for less than half price.

@@K6UDAGerman here. Most local resellers already have (active) pre-order listings for the 705. The 705's price setting for the German market targets approx. 1500 EUR = 1650 USD = 2500 AUD.

K6UDA being advertised in UK for $1299 pounds which is about $2400 Australian. If the prices are correct, I don’t see them selling like we all thought it would. Cmon, it’s not offering anything more than it’s Yaesu competition apart from a battery draining screen. Most people will work hf so it’s far more economical getting a Yaesu ft-891 which can be wound down to 5 or 10 watts and is less than half the price.

I've said it many times...Tell me just what this radio has that is NOT already out in a qrp rig??..band scope?? XIEGU G90 and its 20w and only $449.95...10 watts??? kx2 829.95...2m/70cm?? FT-818 569.95...d-star??? most people working qrp portable will most likely have an HT with them and a lot will have a ID-51A-PLUS2 if they want d-star...I am really NOT hating on icom i have a couple and an icom qrp rig..2 703 plus and are great rigs..but far to many are making this 705 to be the best thing sense sliced bread and there is nothing new about it that isnt out already and most the time smaller lighter and most likely cheaper then the 705...It is not sliced bread nothing new or the biggest thing in qrp..Being a qrp person like I am the best thing i can say to Icom it welcome back to qrp...far to late and far to much for my taste
