This is probably my favourite of this season so far. As someone who is a second generation British-Pakistani, I'm glad that they covered a very tragic part of history and explored some potentially difficult themes. Acting and dialogue was a little iffy at times but this is definitely one of the better ones of the season, up there with the Rosa Parks one.

One of the best episodes of the series. The first time the Doctor encounters the aliens reminds me of a badly tuned radio with the volume up too loud. Its an excellent effect. I'm glad they focussed on the internal sectarian divisions rather than have some British Army chap in a pith helmet being all racist or something. It was correct politically rather than politically correct. A good honest way to present the situation. The "not an evil plan" motif was a bit of a repeat of "Twice upon a time" but it was used differently so not bad.

The Demons of the Pujab is another beautiful historical / sci-fi adventure. While it's just a touch ( or in this case, a flower petal... more on that later ) less intense than Rosa three weeks ago, this was Bheti ( Yasmin ) Khan's moment to shine... actually moments. The Thajarians / Valjarians reminded me of Testimony from Twice Upon a Time almost a year ago. Both started off as the bad guys ( Testimony removing people from their timelines, Valjarians as Assassin's ), but later turned out to be good for the greater good of those who passed away. The scenery is beautiful, I heard Episode 6 was filmed in India...or maybe it was South Africa, whichever location it is, it's majestic and the music really fits the episode well..... I love how they did a Pujabi Version of the Doctor Who theme at the end. Now to the petals....if you look closely, you'll see red flowers pop up in the fields, aka poppies, but in Great Britian and its Commonwealth Countries, like Canada, they symbolise those who served our Countries...and this past weekend, we commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the end of World War 1 and also a double salute to Veteran's Day, yesterday and today...and before I forget ( I almost did....😨...) the way they addressed The Partition Agreement of India in 1947 is spot on, just like they addressed 1955's Birmingham in Rosa. Two historical/sci-fi adventures done well. Another fantastic reaction/ review LTTP, can't wait for the Amazon inspired romp that is Kerblam! next Sunday. One more....ONE MORE thing..... I was home from work in time yesterday to see Demons of the Pujab ( 5pm 😄....and saw it again at 10:10pm...not LATE to this party... THIS TIME ). OK, now I'm done, have a great week ahead of you. 🌹😊..# TEAM TARDIS...#TeamYaz ( Bheti )

My Family story comes from the British Raj with my nani, then East Pakistan with my parents dealing with our country's own partition and war of independence for the Bengali peoples. There is so much history that the show can shine a light onto with the colonisation of India alone. I'd like to see the show talk about China at some point as well as Nepal. The opium wars maybe. Theres hundreds of years we could speak about with the horrible things of the past. My nana and nani both taught me that forgiveness and love is a superpower, and I mustnt forget that. I trust they have wisdom I haven't found. I know hate begets hate while Hope prevails. Or to quote The Doctor. "Hate is foolish, and Love is Wise". We need to stand holding hands and unite as one race, the human race. I hope I am not being a cynic, because that is not good for my journey in harmony with the planet, but I currently fear that we focus on the small things that makes us different and unique, rather than the majority of things that make us the same. Peace and well wishes to you.

This may be my favorite episode of the new season, so far. That said (and realizing it is still early days yet), I am thinking that the show may no longer be the *Doctor Who* I used to enjoy. But that _does not mean_ it is not a good show in its own right. It is just _different_ now. I am enjoying it, but in a completely different way. For completely different reasons. It is not the same show it once was. One might say, it seems to be maturing a bit. As a fan of the show since the 70's, it seems _to me_ as though there has been a fundamental shift for 13's run, which makes it different from Doctors 9 ─ 12. A shift which is as different in tone and style as what we experienced when the show returned in 2005, after only having _Classic_ *Doctor Who* for years. While the changes are not necessarily the same, there was a considerable difference. . .Yet, still *Doctor Who.* There seems to be this vague sense of _distance_ with 13. She doesn't seem to be the center of attention somehow. . . except what focus we bring. The attention we place on her. Perhaps it is the result of not really getting a sense of _who_ this Doctor *is.* Maybe that's what is informing much of my opinion regarding the _shift_ I noted. Although it's probably a combination of things (and nothing to do with tiny bananas). Some have complained that, again, there was no clearly defined _"baddie."_ I don't mind. After all if a story is good... Then a story is good. And seeing as the show has run over 800 episodes since its debut in the early 60's, I suppose such _variety_ will be essential to its survival. That doesn't please all of us all of the time, but it keeps the show going, I think. I hope people don't simply see it as a message of _political correctness._ It's a message from history. *_It is history._* This episode, not written by Chibnal, was quite good, IMHO. Just not *Doctor Who* of the past. Chibnal seems to be a better show runner than a writer on his own. And I had the _converse_ opinion of Moffat. He was a much better writer than show runner. Finally. . .Graham *is* the best.

Really enjoyed this episode. I actually had no idea about the partition and had never heard about it (I'm a white english male if that matters but yes it was never taught to me at school but neither was Rose Parks story, and I enjoyed that one too by the way). I don't know if I want some real world education stuff in every episode but I've enjoyed these that have had it (and as is often said by smart people, Doctor Who was designed as an education show for children from the very beginning before they noticed space monsters brought it more publicity). Really solid first season for the new Doc so far and I'm liking her a lot and oddly Graham (which is strange cos I've known Bradley Walsh from some other shows he acted in, including Sarah Jane Adventures) and as a game show host and comedian and never been a big fan but he's very good as a companion. Having an older male companion feels quite classic to me like Ian with the First Doctor or Harry with the Fourth. Anyways nice reaction vid. :)

What the aliens were doing in this story was somewhat similar to what Testament was doing in Twice Upon A Time. I did enjoy the episode and did get emotional, but what the show needs to do very soon is deliver a slice of shock with a spoonful of fear. Maybe a Doctor from a parallel universe who is more evil than the Master. Perhaps get a previous Doctor to play the part. An explanation to were the Valiard comes from.

To paraphrase something I read - Tolerance isn't a value, it's a peace treaty. Those who are intolerant have violated the treaty, and are no longer guaranteed "tolerance" under the treaty's conditions. So, yes, I DO reserve the right to be intolerant of the intolerant. They can't claim rights under a treaty they have broken.

A couple of things. First, I don't know much beyond basic Indian history either, but I heard that the movie Viceroy's house (written and directed by Gurinder Chadha of Bend it Like Beckham fame) is fantastic. (I'm on the wait list to see it at the library...here's a trailer for it kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5XCi6yEmduLgbM ) Second, I thought it was really appropriate and thoughtful to have aliens on this episode whose purpose was to watch over the lost and lonely dead, especially airing now. Sunday was November 11, 2018, exactly 100 years since then end of WWI, where so many soldiers died unknown.

6 episodes in now, im liking her more and more as the doctor. however the storylines, writing too, still arent doctor who like. 6 episodes, no arc as yet , almost every episode gone back in time, in a moral way. its ok, i enjoy the episodes, hoping the series gets better tho.
@MrPaulMorris6 жыл бұрын
Chibnall said in interviews before the series started that there would be no arcs (and no returning villains). While the 'Timeless Child' reference back in episode 2 smacks of arc building, it may be that this will only come to fruition in the next series in 2019 (or 2020 if rumours are to be believed). To me the feeling (if not execution) of this series is quite reminiscent of the very earliest period of Who back in 63/64. The time also had three companions but, more importantly, the Doctor was not the main protagonist in many stories and certainly not the almost omnipotent 'oncoming storm' of recent years. He wandered as interest (and the Tardis) drew him, largely avoided interfering but had an almost childlike glee in observing new people and places. I see many echoes of that character in the current incarnation. While you wait for the series to 'get better', bear in mind that it is nearly over already! Only four more episodes plus the 'seasonal' special then another year (or two) before the show returns.

This has been my favorite episode so far this season (with Rosa very close behind). The two eps that Chris Chibnall co-writes or doesn't write are my favs; I'm beginning to think that I just might not like Chibnall's writing style. My thoughts: 1. Jody's good and I've enjoyed her work, but I'm still waiting to see her truly get angry or even be cruel (think Nine in "Dalek" or Eleven's speech mocking "Captain Runaway"). 2. Team Tardis; good name, good team. I really like the variety in cultures, gender, and age of the group. 3. The stories are entertaining & enjoyable, but at times they can drag on a bit. This may be due to the extra length of time now for each episode in series 11. 4. Weak ass alien villains. This so far has been the biggest disappointment. And there's only 4 episodes left to change this. So overall I've been happy with series 11 although not to the point of "best ever" like I've already seen posted too many times. I'm excited to see how Thirteen's personality continues to evolve and becomes uniquely her own (think Twelve; man was he different from series eight to what he became in series ten). I just hope we get new and better villains like the Weeping Angels or the Silence.

I've been watching Dr Who since day one, and I can honestly say that this is the worst incarnation of the Doctor so far. Not because it's now a woman playing the role, but that she's such a bad actor. The stories are now so awful, but typical of the sort of thing we now expect from the BBC. All we need now is for them to go into the future and show how awful the decision was for us to leave Europe, The BBC being anti Brexit and anti Trump (which was obvious from a previous episode)......Viewers are leaving in droves, maybe the BBC wants to kill the programme off ?. If so they should allow an external company to take over.
