It’s insane that Maitreyi is only 19. I thought she was 21-22 lol. But she is amazing in Never Have I Ever for it being her first acting role. It’s a step in the right direction for representation of South Asians & South Asian culture thanks to Mindy, Lilly, Maitreyi, & all of the other talented actors in the industry making their own path for themselves in different ways

And it’s especially so cool because Tamil people never ever to my knowledge have gotten any representation on mainstream media so this is a huge step for us Tamilians!

@@walksthroughlife900 Mindy is Bengali and Tamilian both but whenever she played something on TV it was a north Indian hindi speaking character, and north Indians have all the representation in Bollywood they literally brown face white skin Punjabis to play Biharis, Bengalis they also use makeup to make their features look smaller and more east Asian to represent North East Indians, take for example Priyanka Chopra in Mary Kom, alia Bhatt and Hrithik Roshan in udta Punjab and no Punjabi has an issue with it and it's never talked about And north Indians have had representation in the global media too

Absolutely well said. You can’t represent every brown person because every one is an individual no matter what race you are. We have to see our selves away from our limited perceptions because we are more than just brown. Why put ourselves in boxes. I think it’s important that people understand that they can and should express their wholesome self, what ever that is. Also that we might not find ourselves represented on media, but who cares , why do we need that when truely if we want to be seen and heard then we need to find ways to express ourselves.
@noshxhson3 жыл бұрын
I 100% agree with this, i hate how brown people get so mad at other brown celebrities (especially those who are women) that they don't represent them - like calm down Priya, they don't have to be exactly like you for you to celebrate them. You don't see white people get mad at that because there is an ARAAAY of people they can relate to, we are just getting started in the media so celebrate any POC you see on screen than tear them down

Hey My3, much love from Sri Lanka. As much as I love both of you, there is one complaint about Never Have I Ever, coz it looks more like a version of Brown people as white people want to see them.
