You could put a milling cutting bit in that to put a keyway in a shaft.

Excellent job! I made almost the exact same thing. The only differences are the plain ball bearings are pressed into an aluminum housing and the collet chuck shaft moves fore and aft in the bearings (don't have to do 2 things at once).

Nice job. Grind the end 8 mm of the collet-shank square, to enable you to use an adjustable tap-wrench for accurate threading of grub-screw holes etc.

why did you used a hacksaw if you have access to a lathe, a file is never used as a spacer,your bearing was too loose.

I actually made something very similar. It's a good using the flange bearing. I should of went that method. Are you planning on making a way to index the lathe?

yeah need to make a expanding arbour that fits down the rear of spindle bore then make or buy indexing plate, make plunger type locking mechanism. Thanks for commenting have a good weekend

Thanks my friend yes very useful kit to have, will save me buying a rotary table for the milling machine. now i need to make index plate for dividing cylindrical work piece into equal number of divisions and some how attach it to the lathe. I don't think i have ever seen a commercial made tool post drill. dremel or grinder attachment yes, but seems to be a few people make and use them, saves time setting them up on drill or mill.
