I Think the Reason that you are dying on the First checkpoint is that the Boundaries of the course for some reason are only loaded in once you pass the first checkpoint. Therefor if you cross it too fast you instacrash into the boundarie of the course.

If you use 3 gyros and 2 rudders on top, one reversed like the side rudders it becomes 4 times easier to fly

At around 8:28 I quickly looked at the plane and to me it looked like a Me 163 Komet, one of the Nazis "wonder or super weapons" It had a single rocket to propel it and had only 7 or 8 minutes of fuel to do diving attacks at the waves upon waves of American bombers. After its fuel ran out, it became a glider.

Boosters without Fuel would provide a constant flow of power; also, you should report the "the starting gate kills me" Bug in on forums.

I can confirm that boosters without fuel do not give a constant source of power, they switch on and off as they get enough fuel (From each tech's natural supply and regeneration.) - Just tested this out to make sure :P. And yes, I will be reporting it ^^
